Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited is seeking to identify a suitable candidate to join our Insurance Accounting team in the capacity of:


 Financial Analyst – Insurance Accounting

 

Assist the Finance division in the accounting, budgeting, reporting, analysis and documentation functions of the company.

Leverage a strong accounting and compliance background to explore financial statement analysis, historical financial data and predict future results.

 

Location: Kingston

 

 As A Financial Analyst – Insurance Accounting, you will:

  • Prepare financial reports/ analyses for use in management decision making, budgeting and planning of the insurance entities in the Group.
    • Analyze financial data and create financial models to support reporting and decision making.
    • Provide analyses of trends and forecasts and recommend actions for optimization.
    • Prepare routine financial statements/ reports (including routine IFRS note disclosures and financial information/ reports requested by regulators or other statutory authorities.)
    • Assist with the preparation of monthly and quarterly management reports including written explanations of variances between budget and prior periods.
    • Prepare other financial reports as required or directed for use by management or the Board of Directors.
    • Prepare appropriate working papers and analyses to support the annual budgets.
  • Utilize technology to build various executive financial dashboards and reports for administrative expenses.
  • Prepare expense allocation files and related journals for financial reporting, IFRS 17, reporting packages and annual financial statements.
  • Review expenses accounts and assist in reviewing accruals and prepayment schedules in order to conclude on completeness and accuracy of administrative expenses.
  • Prepare list of one-off expense for specified periods for reporting.
  • Prepare related budgeted expense schedules.
  • Prepare audit schedules and assist with audit clearance.
  • Prepare and review IFRS 17 reports and analyses.
  • Review assigned processes and accounts and develop models for transfer to business units.
  • Prepare other financial reports or other requirements for the insurance accounting department as the need arises.
  • Perform any other related duties that may be assigned.

 

What do you need?

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Management Studies or equivalent qualification from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ working experience in the financial industry.
  • Knowledge of IFRS 17 and risk integrity would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of the company’s products, services, and operations.
  • Knowledge of any relevant regulatory requirements and applicable tax law.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • High level of proficiency in the use of computer software packages such as spreadsheet applications.
  • Proficiency in software used by the Group to record financial transactions.
  • A working knowledge of a broad range of disciplines such as basic financial analysis/ modelling and process documentation techniques.
  • Ability to deliver high quality documentation.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex concepts and translate them into easily understandable documents and charts.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work with multiple tasks simultaneously.
