The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the maintenance programme for the College’s facilities: grounds, buildings and equipment to ensure compliance with approved standards.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/EXPERTISE:
ü NVQ-J Level 1 Certification in Property and Facilities Maintenance
ü At least two (2) year’s relevant work experience in a comparable position or business/work environment
KEY COMPETENCIES:
ü In-depth Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures
ü Ability to provide technical advice
ü Basic Computer Knowledge
ü Basic construction or maintenance skills
KEY DUTIES:
ü Plans, organises and co-ordinates maintenance activities to ensure proper functionality of the Institute’s facilities and equipment
ü Keeps daily maintenance log and enters maintenance records; prepares reports on a timely basis as scheduled
ü Undertakes general preventative maintenance of equipment and all buildings, carries out routine repairs and recommend improvements where necessary
ü Prepares and submit estimates for material and equipment to facilitate maintenance program
ü Obtains and evaluate estimates from Contractors/ Tradesmen and make recommendations
ü Liaises with Contractors/ Tradesmen and arrange for emergency repairs to be undertaken; provide status report on jobs, verify invoices and submit for approval
ü Follows established procedures for the usage, care, maintenance and storage of equipment and tools
ü Monitors work of Utility Service Attendant
ü Ensures that furniture and equipment are moved and arranged as necessary
ü Pre-tests, sets up and operates audiovisual equipment at meetings and seminars as requested; maintains a log of usage of equipment and present monthly status report to supervisor
ü Opens and close laboratories and other designated areas, turns on and off AC and lights at designated times
ü Monitors log at security post
