Diploma in Maritime Operations - Navigation

Description:

The Diploma in Maritime Operations – Navigation programme seeks to contribute towards eligibility to be awarded a Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) UK certificate ‘STCW UNDERPINNING KNOWLEDGE’ which subsequently (on completion of additional professional STCW short courses, sea training and successful passes in the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) written safety examinations and MCA oral examination) will make the student eligible to be awarded a first certificate of competency as a deck officer (Officer of the Watch) in the merchant navy. Further, the programme seeks to provide students with a university based education leading to the award of a Diploma in Maritime Operations – Navigation. This will form the basis of study for progression to degree level studies; in particular, the BSc. Nautical Science/Maritime Operations offered by the university.

Mode of Delivery and Duration: Full Time only; Two years (2)

Available Part Time:No

Entry Requirements

  • Passes in a minimum of five (5) subjects at CSEC (CXC O’Level) General Proficiency in Grades I and II and from 1998, Grade III or
equivalent GCE O’Levels including Grades A, B or C in Mathematics, English Language and Physics.
    Additionally:
Prospective students will have to pass diagnostic tests in Mathematics and English Language. Final acceptance onto the programme will then

Mature Student Entry:

Mature students with appropriate industrial experience are to be particularly encouraged to apply for admission to the programme.
