Certificate in Pan and Music Literacy

Description:

The Certificate in Pan and Music Literacy curriculum has been designed to introduce the basic elements of professional pan playing and music literacy for potential professional musicians in the Caribbean. The programme offered by The University of Trinidad and Tobago aims to introduce technical training to students who want to develop their skills, be more knowledgeable in music and become encouraged enough to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts programme in Music. In this programme, students develop the required skills through the practical application of key concepts and principles of ambidextrous pan playing.

The Certificate in Pan and Music Literacy is a one (1) year programme of study comprising thirty-six (36) credits, where a strong foundation in practical training and basic elements of Music Theory is established. The students would be taught the following aspects of Music: Practical, SightReading and Ear Training.

On completion of their studies at this level in Pan and Music Literacy, students with the appropriate academic qualifications will be able to successfully pursue advanced studies in their desired areas of interest.

Entry Requirements

  • Passes in a minimum of five (5) subjects at CXC (CSEC) General Proficiency level in Grades I or II and from 1998 Grade III or equivalent GCE O'Levels including Grades A, B or C in Mathematics and English Language;
  • A competitive audition;
  • An interview with the faculty.

Mature Entry:

An applicant who does not satisfy all the stipulated minimum academic or technical qualifications for admission to the programme may be accepted as a Mature Student. He/she would need to possess the critical elements of the stipulated qualification and would be assessed as possessing a combination of qualifications and educational or experiential maturity to enable him/her to successfully participate in the Programme.
