To assist the Executive Director through the advancement and translation of policies related to National Security

Deputy Director, Policy

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

¨ Manages the overall operations of the Policy Department.

¨ Plans, direct, coordinate and review the work plan, including the operating procedures of the Policy Department

¨ Advises the Executive Director on policy matters that may have a negative impact on National Security

¨ Directs the production of administrative policies designed to achieve the objectives of the department

¨ Reviews and advise on the emergence or potential of issues, trends, practices and policies that may hinder National Objectives

¨ Represents the department at meetings for the creation and implementation of policies both local and international

¨ Cultivates and maintain harmonious relations with all approved organisations in the Community

¨ Works collaboratively to develop and execute policy-related research and educational briefings

¨ Participates in the recruitment of staff toward the maintenance of an optimal operating level within the organisation

¨ To assist in the review of requests and advise on training requirements to ensure the maintenance of required skills  to achieve the various objectives and mandates

¨ Performs any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

¨ Knowledge of Government policies and procedures, particularly those related to the Community

¨ Ability to quickly assess scenarios and apply the required procedure to derive the optimal solution

¨ Ability to lead and motivate a department with a dynamic and skilled team to attain the outlined objectives

¨ Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

¨  Ability to display the required level of diplomacy to ensure the maintenance of local and foreign relationships

¨ Knowledge of protocol when interacting with persons from the political and administrative sectors of the community

 

Education and Experience:

¨ A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences (preferably International Relations or Law)

¨ At least five to six (5-6) years experience in a policy development environment with a minimum of four (4) years at management level

¨ Studies in the Psychology, Sociology and Human Resources would be considered an asset

¨ Competency in one or more foreign languages will be considered an asset
