The Manager, Market Operations is responsible for managing the Market Operations department of the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange Limited (TTSE) ensuring efficiency and compliance to all applicable policies and regulations. This position reports to the CEO or designate.

Objective

  • To manage the daily operations of the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange Limited (TTSE) to ensure efficient operations and compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, rules and regulations
  • To manage and regulate market activity so as to maintain a fair and orderly market and to identify exceptional trading levels and unusual trading patterns
  • To provide research support for new business opportunities, changes to rules or guidelines and any other initiatives
  • To transform the TTSE’s strategic plans into operational plans for the department
  • To identify business development opportunities for the TTSE and for the Trinidad and Tobago Central Depository Limited (TTCD)
  • To prepare budgets and business plans
  • To develop procedural guidelines for the efficient operation of the TTSE Operations Department
  • To fulfill all applicable internal and external audit requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Increase revenue for the TTSE’s profitability
  • Investigate, develop and implement new business development opportunities to increase revenue for the TTSE/TTCD
  • Develop and implement new policies and procedures or change existing policies and procedures to ensure efficient operations of the TTSE
  • Ensure research is adequate for needs related to initiatives of the TTSE
  • Develop and monitor departmental goals to ensure completion within the stipulated timeframe
  • Ensure all changes to the Trading/Settlement System are thoroughly tested and accurately implemented and document procedures
  • Recommend new TTSE/TTCD Rules and amendments to existing TTSE/TTCD Rules as required
  • Provide strong support and guidance to TTSE staff in the execution of their responsibilities
  • Assist in the development of subordinates so as to ensure continuity of business
  • Development and execution of public awareness and education campaign
  • Lead special projects
  • Perform other related duties as maybe required

Key Relationship / Reporting Structure

  • Reports to the Chief Executive Officer or designate
  • Supervises TTSE Operations Officer(s)
  • Interacts with investors, Member Firms, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, the media, internal staff, Listed Companies

Performance Parameters

  • Monitoring of adherence by listed entities to procedures, rules and regulations
  • Surveillance of trading to initiate alerts regarding any unusual activity
  • Efficient completion of all ad hoc events related to TTSE’s operations e.g. IPOs, new product development and implementation
  • Drafting and implementation of any changes to the Rules of the TTSE or the TTCD as may be necessary
  • Development of business to grow new business lines and to expand existing core business
  • Completion and incorporation of research to support initiatives
  • Initiative, problem solving, adaptability and willingness to participate in all aspects of the business and interest in self-development

Value Added Performance and Teamwork

  • Solves problems and changes procedures where necessary to improve efficiency
  • Assists in other areas of the organization, by providing strong support to co-workers, and ensuring workgroup deadlines are met and contributing to a high level of morale
  • Keeps current with changes in the external environment that may potentially impact the business
  • Keeps subordinates and co-workers informed about what is happening even if they are not required to share such information
  • Leads special projects and achieves completion on time and within budget

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Business Administration, Finance or equivalent professional qualification
  • 10 years’ progressive experience in the field of investments, preferably in the brokerage industry and in market research and business development
  • Experience in the securities industry would be an asset

Knowledge and Other Skills

  • Sound working knowledge of the local investment environment and familiarity with the international investments environment
  • Working knowledge of the relevant laws and regulations of Trinidad and Tobago as they relate to securities environment.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite
  • Excellent multitasking skills
  • High level of emotional intelligence/ability to interact professionally and productively with direct reports, other team members and external parties
  • Sound knowledge of the operations of the Stock Exchange
  • Excellent written and oral communication with adept report writing skills
