CROWN COUNSEL (Criminal) (2 Posts)

CI$87,444 – CI$94,188 per annum

$105,000 - $114,000 USD Approx

About the role

Crown Counsel will be responsible for conducting prosecutions and complex criminal litigation on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions, operating at all levels of the Court system, including the Cayman Islands’ Court of Appeal.  They will also be required to advise law enforcement agencies and Cayman Islands Government Departments and Statutory Authorities.  Responsibilities include:

  • Review cases for charging decisions.
  • Provide specialist written charging advice often working to tight deadlines.
  • Effectively dealing with witnesses and victims.
  • Manage a busy caseload, providing prompt and effective legal advice.
  • Prosecute cases in court for at least 12 days each month.

 

About you

You must be a qualified Barrister, Solicitor, or Attorney-at-Law qualified to practice in an English-speaking Commonwealth jurisdiction, with at least 5 years post qualification experience in criminal law. Have substantial experience prosecuting serious and complex criminal cases with a sound knowledge of human rights and constitutional law, the laws of evidence, practice and procedure.

You are a team player with outstanding interpersonal ability and possess excellent analytical, legal research, drafting, and computer skills. You are a strong negotiator and assimilate instructions quickly.
