The Credit Manager oversees the Credit Union’s lending and credit granting processes.

Responsibilities:

1. Conducts a thorough analysis of loan applications; evaluates creditworthiness and financial backgrounds of potential borrowers. Analyses credit reports, income documents, and other relevant information to make informed lending decisions.

2. Regularly reviews and analyses the credit portfolio’s performance, relevant metrics, and key performance indicators to identify areas for improvement and opportunities for growth.

3. Establishes and maintains lending criteria and guidelines for different types of loans. Ensures that loans are underwritten in accordance with established policies and regulatory requirements.

4. Leads the credit department and supervisory team. Provides guidance to ensure consistent and accurate credit decisions and exceptional customer service.

5. Sets performance goals for the credit department; measures and monitors results and provides productivity metrics.

6. Conducts performance assessments in line with the Performance Management Programme

7. Ensures compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and credit union policies pertaining to lending and credit operations.

8. Prepares comprehensive reports on the performance of the loan portfolio and credit department.

9. Recommends appropriate initiatives to expand the Co-operative’s credit offerings; implements measures to improve the efficiency of the performance of the loan portfolio; enhances member service experience; and collaborates with the Senior leadership to increase the interest income and profitability of the Co-operative.

10. Automates processes in the credit department to improve productivity and reduce costs.

11. Analyses market trends to make recommendations for credit terms.

Qualifications and Skills:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Management or a related field; Master’s degree preferred

2. A minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in credit administration and credit risk management (five of which should be at a senior level)

3. Proven experience in credit analysis, underwriting, and portfolio management in financial institutions of a similar size and complexity; including formal training in underwriting.
