Our client in the Banking sector is currently seeking a Temporary Credit Underwriter ( Commercial Lending/Business Loans)

Employment Type: Six (6) months Contract/ Renewable

Work Environment: Hybrid

 

Job Summary

The Commercial Credit Underwriter plays a critical role in evaluating the creditworthiness of loan applications through meticulous analysis of financial statements and identification of potential credit risks.

Major Responsibilities

  • Credit Underwriting: Evaluate and underwrite commercial loans, prepare comprehensive credit packages and presentations.
  • Financial Analysis: Utilize software and Excel to score credit applications, create customer profiles, and conduct security analyses.
  • Compliance Management: Compile all necessary compliance documents and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Customer Engagement: Support business developers in assessing new customers and attending meetings as necessary.
  • Risk Assessment: Analyze, evaluate, and underwrite proposed credit facilities, identifying key risks and structuring appropriate alternatives.
  • Portfolio Management: Monitor and manage credit portfolios, including conducting annual reviews and recommending modifications or extensions.
  • Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on credit analyses, risk ratings, and compliance status for management and stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the Manager - Credit and team members to ensure consistent and informed credit decisions.

Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in business or commercial lending, with a strong background in financial statement analysis and credit risk assessment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Financial Expertise: Proficient in financial statement analysis, general accounting principles, cash flow analysis, and various loan calculations.
  • Analytical Skills: Highly analytical with the ability to scrutinize complex processes and improve efficiency.
  • Organizational Skills: Exemplary planning and organizational abilities, detail-oriented with a results-driven approach.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, adept at conveying complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Relationship Building: Skilled in building and maintaining relationships with clients and colleagues, fostering trust and collaboration.
  • Technology Proficiency: Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office suite; familiarity with loan servicing software is advantageous.
  • Judgment and Decision Making: Ability to exercise sound judgment in researching, analyzing facts, and making informed decisions.
  • Adaptability: Capable of working effectively under pressure and in a technology-driven environment.
