JOB PURPOSE

The COO is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the company, ensuring efficient and effective management of resources to achieve organisational goals. This role involves strategic planning, financial management, and leading a diverse team to drive growth and maintain high performance standards.

  

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Planning:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve organisational objectives and drive growth.
  • Analyse market trends and industry developments to inform business strategies.

Operational Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including lab, sales/service & marketing, IT, finance, and human resources and logistics and purchasing.
  • Ensure efficient allocation of resources and manage operational costs.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and motivate a diverse team to achieve high performance and productivity.
  • Ensure accountability from managers and their teams
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.

Staff Management

  • Recruit, develop, and lead staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
  • Set targets for continuous assessment of staff

Financial Management:

  • Oversee, develop and manage budgets, ensuring financial prudence and profitability.
  • Monitor financial performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Set financial key performance indicators for the company and ensure all accounting is carried out according to standard procedures and accounting principles
  • Control and continuously update of all accounting procedures ensuring all company assets are insured and accounted for
  • Reconcile and analyse all institutions - financial and government addressing concerns and providing information when needed
  • Ensure final accounts and audited statements are prepared in a timely manner and submitted to the relevant parties involved.

Customer Relations:

  • Ensure excellent customer service and maintain strong relationships with key clients.
  • Address customer concerns and resolve issues promptly.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate risks to the organisation.

Business Development:

  • Identify business opportunities and develop strategies to expand the company’s market presence.
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including suppliers, partners, and regulatory bodies.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and present reports on operational performance, financial status, and strategic initiatives to the MD and Board of Directors.
  • Use data and analytics to drive decision-making and continuous improvement

   

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a senior management role, preferably within the energy sector.
  • Strong knowledge of business operations, financial management, and strategic planning.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in business management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
