Our client, The Export-Import Bank of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (EXIMBANK) is seeking to fill the position of Chief Operations Officer (COO).

JOB SUMMARY

The COO will report to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and has overall responsibility to ensure the execution of the Bank’s business plan by leading and managing the operations of the IT and Business Transformation Department, Trade Solutions Department, Human Resources/Administration Department, Credit Administration Department, Customer Experience Department, Marketing Department, Project and Procurement Departments.   

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. 1.       Achieve Business Performance by ensuring service excellence and operational efficiency:
  • Driving the Bank’s internal strategies
  • Overseeing the daily operations to continually improve operational efficiency – steers, supports and counsels the Management Team on all aspects of the Bank’s operations and is accountable for ensuring all operations and process improvement initiatives adhere to the Bank’s approved governance, risk and regulatory frameworks.
  • Works alongside the Management Team to optimise cross departmental synergies in catalysing successful results, while supporting the Bank’s functions according to circumstances and needs.
  • Responsible for formulating, implementing and reviewing business strategies, plans and operations for the effective delivery of services via the ‘Customer Experience and Advisory Services’ arm, to support the Bank’s Mandate, and a continuous improvement approach to the organization. 
  • Works closely with the CEO to develop the Bank’s Strategic Plans, inclusive of Marketing and Business Plan.
  • Maintain good customer relationships with corporate customers and ensure their business needs for the Bank’s services are fulfilled within the regulatory frameworks. 

 

2. Internal Control:

  • Ensure all operational functions are in line with the internal control policies and procedures of the Bank.
  • Coordinate closely with the Chief Risk Officer and Corporate Sec, Senior Manager Legal & Compliance to ensure that the operational functions of the Bank are in line with updated guidelines and regulations guided by the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Develops standardised practices/policies across the business as appropriate and ensures processes are documented.

 

3. Financial Responsibility:

  • Coordinate with the CFO for the Annual Budgeting exercise of the Bank.
  • Responsible for annual budgeting of the Operations Division, monitoring the budget performance and control of variances to ensure effective utilisation and re-appropriate the budget if and when necessary.
  • Fiduciary duty to the Board; and is a member of the Bank’s management committees inclusive of the Asset & Liability (ALCO). 

 

4. Marketing and Business Development:

  • Serves as a strategic advisor to the CEO; Coordinates and contributes to the Business and Strategy development of the bank; implementation of research projects such as Market research, product research and competitor analysis, with other team members.

 

5. Human Resource Management:

  • Lead and coach the teams to achieve excellent business results through continuous people development and mentoring activities.
  • Coordinate with the Senior Manager Human Resources to ensure the development of a high-performing team through embedding formal performance management and development programmes.
  • Coordinate with the Senior Manager Human Resources to identify the training and development needs for all levels of staff and ensure that the required training programmes are budgeted and executed.

 

6. Projects and Procurement:

  • Oversee the functions of the Project and Procurement Units with the objective of ensuring the functions are executed in accordance with the Bank’s Polices and applicable Regulatory guidelines.

 

7. Other specific duties that may be required:

  • Review and approve all documents for credit applications/loan facilities/forex facilities and other required trade finance authorizations.
  • Work closely with the CEO to prepare and review reports for Ministries and other parties.
  • Act as a liaison between the ministries, financial institutions, central bank, other institutions (local, regional and international).
  • Any other related duties that may arise as indicated by the Chief Executive Officer or Board of Directors.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Masters degree in Business Administration, Executive Masters in Business Administration or any other related field.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years relevant progressive experience, in business operations, including at least five (5) years in a senior managerial capacity; with a proven track record in leading trade operations.
  • Knowledge of Trade Finance terms, products and services
  • Considerable knowledge of:
    • All the Financial Acts (FIU, FIA Insurance, Central Bank)
    • Management principles as they apply to export/import and banking operations.
  • In depth knowledge of the Industrial Relations Act of Trinidad and Tobago
  • Extensive team management skills with ability to quickly engage relevant resources.
