The Business & Employment Centre on behalf of its client Business Barbados, is recruiting for the full-time role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Business Barbados is designed to modernise and enhance the way the business is conducted in Barbados. The entity is responsible for corporate and intellectual property registration, with an expanded portfolio of services to come. The statutory corporation is at the forefront of making Barbados’ business landscape accessible to all, helping companies start, maintain and protect their businesses and investments. Business Barbados is at the heart of business for local and global investors, redefining business facilitation.

Key Responsibilities
Lead Strategy

  • Lead the transformative customer first business strategy from launch to scale and drive continuous improvement.
  • Drive the operations of Business Barbados and guide the business towards long-term success in delivering ‘world class customer service and experience’.
  • Continue to develop the business model ahead of the market.
  • Drive growth profitability and company value.
  • Work with the Executive leadership to build digital and innovation technology capabilities to drive operations and future growth.
  • Lead a high performing team with a performance management culture of accountability and responsibility across the business.


Build Great Talent & Teams

  • Cultivate a high-performing agile One Team culture.
  • Attract, retain & develop world-class talent, including making recruitment decisions of full leadership team.
  • Work to build and encourage growth and development across teams in the organisation.

Engage Stakeholders

  • Regularly report updates to Board of Directors and corporate stakeholders regarding progress on strategic priorities and collaborate with Board of Directors to accelerate progress.
  • Invest in strategic partnerships & relationships with Brand Barbados, Government agencies and other strategic partners to drive growth.
  • Serve as chief external spokesperson and establish credibility throughout the customer and partner networks.


Policy & Business Facilitation Product Development

  • Develop policies, strategies, and frameworks for business facilitation product development delivering on Government’s objective to “Deliver ‘world class’ customer experiences and establish Barbados as the “Global hub of choice for doing business in the western hemisphere.”
  • Maintain a deep knowledge of competitive markets and industry. • Work with the Registrar and Executive leaders to navigate and manage necessary legislative changes, to meet global regulatory standards.
  • Develop new business facilitation product features and continuously improve doing business in Barbados.
  • Oversee the expansion of the Intellectual Property Sub-brand to grow IP assets and the capacity to police IP infringement of Barbados’s IP assets globally.


Compliance and Governance

  • Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Oversee compliance programmes to support Barbados’ adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee operational governance policies and procedures, business continuity programs to ensure business sustainability.
  • Embed business compliance, data security, privacy, and ethical standards, processes and procedures across the organization.


Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Business, and any other related field with a minimum of seven (7) years of proven experience within the last ten (10) years;
  • Attorney at law of not less than 10 years’ standing, would be a bonus.


Skills and Competencies:

  • An understanding of and experience with company and intellectual property law, anti- money laundering regulations (AML) and international compliance obligations.
  • Proven experience as CEO or in other executive leadership roles with outstanding organizational and leadership skills.
  • A strategic leader with a proven track record of creating a vision for success, developing successful business strategies and building high calibre teams.
  • Proven record of leading and scaling business.
  • Experience with leveraging digital and innovative technologies, and customer focused strategies.
  • Experience in leading cross functional teams and developing a culture of collaboration.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Familiarity with Barbados government processes and policies would be an advantage.
  • Experience with delivering digital transformation and business change would be an advantage.
