The Chief Engineer is responsible for managing and overseeing the maintenance and repair of all resort facilities. They are also responsible for managing a team of technicians and mechanics.

Overview:   

The Chief Engineeris responsible for managing and overseeing the maintenance and repair of all resort facilities, including guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces. They are also responsible for managing a team of technicians and mechanics, ensuring that all work is completed efficiently and to a high standard. 

They are responsible for managing all aspects of maintenance staff daily; directs, coordinates, and performs routine, preventive, and emergency interior / exterior maintenance and repairs to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of hotel operations.  

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure proper execution of work order/request system, and that items are followed up on when necessary. 

  • Implement preventive maintenance schedules, policies and rules to ensure an efficient department. 

  • Respond to guest calls regarding maintenance of rooms, equipment in the rooms and public area equipmentin a timely manner. 

  • Support the energy conservation program allowing the hotel to meet its annual budget targets. 

  • Maintain close working relations with hotel contractors who furnish reliable 24-hour emergency service. 

  • Ensure meter readings are taken daily and review information to evaluate consumption. 

  • Maintain asset register for all equipment 

  • Supervise, schedule, counsel, and evaluate performance and plan the activities of maintenance staff including making spot checks on a daily basis. 

  • Assist with the preparation of Preparation annual maintenance plans and forecasts, managing budget 

  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area and ensures tools & equipment are well maintained and in sufficient supply 

  • Promotes and ensures a safe working environment 

  • Assist with other departmental tasks and duties when needed. 

Qualifications: 

  • CEM/CFM certification preferred. 

  • Experience with HVAC-R 

  • Experience with wastewater treatment and reverse osmosis water plants necessary 

  • The ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics 

  • Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately 

  • Must work well in stressful, high-pressure situations 

  • Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary 

  • Must have the ability to assimilate complex information/data etc. from disparate sources and consider adjusting or modifying to meet the constraints of the particular need 

  • Must be effective at listening to understand, clarify, and resolve the concerns and issues raised by colleagues and guests. 

Education: 

  • Bachelor of Science, Diploma, or College Degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering preferred.   

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience and 3 years of supervisory or managerial experience in the engineering department of a luxury resort.
