The Chief Engineer is responsible for leading and managing the Maintenance team to ensure the successful execution of all maintenance activities and consistent availability of the Manufacturing equipment.

He/she is responsible for strategic planning, resource management, collaboration with other departments to meet company

goals and objectives and fostering an environment in which teamwork can flourish. The job holder will ensure compliance

with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, schedule and ensures the team carries out maintenance activities to achieve Zone Minimum Target Uptime as determined by Upper Management according to DIN 8782 standards.
  • Utilize engineering technologies to improve the performance of equipment and systems in the Zone
  • Develop and ensure the Teams execution of preventive maintenance activities to effectively protect the state of the assets assigned to the Zone, by ensuring maximum uptime on their functionality and maintaining the integrity on the exterior state of the assets (paint, cleanliness, guarding, etc.) 
  • Create and implement an overhaul program where applicable for the Zone assets, showing details as: part lists- part numbers, quantity and cost; OEM technicians cost, dates of different activities – parts ordering, parts shipping, technician arrival, overhaul execution dates, etc.
  • Revise periodically the Preventive Maintenance Plan to ensure adequate maintenance activities (neither insufficient nor excess). 
  • Implement systems to ensure that the Plan for the preventive maintenance tasks are done diligently, programmed on time and accurately. 
  • Analyze Downtime Database and develop and implement action plans to reduce to zero, the reoccurrence of avoidable machine breakdowns. 
  • Implement systems to ensure that the execution of the preventive maintenance tasks are carried out diligently by the Line and Plant technicians 
  • Execution of all orders is expected over the planned tasks. 
  • Management of a diligent calibration program with protocols and international standards to ensure full calibration and optimum state of all plant devices dependant of a calibration procedure
  • Prepare and present all cost related data related to major maintenance activities in all Zones to the Head-Manufacturing. 
  • Plan and control maintenance cost in all Zones to ensure maintenance standards and cost per case targets are met. 
  • Prepare and present detailed reports with data defined by the Head-Manufacturing that shows the results of all Zones and the action plans to improve the performance. 
  • Monitor and ensures all metrics corresponding to the Zones are updated on the Visual Factory Board as prescribed. 
  • Work with Zone Leaders to ensure a Critical Failures List is maintained logging all the sudden breakdowns, defines the root cause of occurrence and action plan is created to avoid reoccurrence. 
  • Work with Zone Leaders to ensure PDCAs are followed to address any gaps in operations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related filed would be considered and asset
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
