Looking for a skilled and experienced Chief Engineer to oversee the management and maintenance of our physical assets, ensuring they are safe, clean, and well-maintained.

Job Description:

The Chief Engineer will be responsible for the overall management of several key departments within the resort including Maintenance and all staff related facilities such as the Canteen, Changing rooms and Staff accommodation. This role involves planning, coordinating, and directing activities through our Heads of Department. Ensuring the smooth running of the facility encompassing operations, maintenance, safety, and environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chief Engineer: Oversee and support the safe operation of the maintenance function ensuring that there is a preventative maintenance plan that is timely and efficient. Ensure that reactionary repairs are carried out in mind of budget and best value for the business. The safety of the guests and the staff is paramount so there should be no risk taken. Servicing of equipment should be carried out in a timely manner to prevent breakdowns and downtime. All repairs carried out should meet with Jamaican law and meet with regulatory standards.
  • Staff Accommodation: Reviews staff accommodations regularly and ensures the upkeep and maintenance of the spaces. Arranges work to be carried out in a timely manner to prevent damage occurring. Works within the budget and plans accordingly around lower occupancy months to carry out works
  • Staff Canteen / Facilities: Oversees the Staff canteen facility and the changing facility for the staff to make sure that they are kept to a high standard and provide a suitable safe space for staff to relax on their break. The facility should be clean and operational at all times.
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with external contractors and service providers, including negotiating contracts, overseeing work quality, and ensuring compliance with service level agreements.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the facilities budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure all facilities meet health, safety, and environmental regulations. Conduct regular safety inspections and address any potential hazards.
  • Space Management: Optimize the use of space within the facilities, including planning for future space needs and coordinating office moves or renovations.
  • Sustainability: Implement and manage initiatives to improve energy efficiency and sustainability across the facilities.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency response plans, including fire safety, evacuation procedures, and disaster recovery.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and lead a team of maintenance staff, providing training, guidance, and support to ensure effective operations.
  • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on facilities operations, including maintenance activities, budget status, and compliance with regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities management, including experience with building maintenance, safety, and compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Proficiency in facilities management software and tools.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
