The Maintenance & Project Planner ensures that preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance tasks are executed in a timely manner, while adhering to environmental regulations and industry standards.

Job Context:

Spectra Engineering Solutions Limited is currently responsible for the service of five Combined Heat & Power (CHP) Plants. Each plant has natural gas-powered engines with various sub systems such as heat recovery boilers, pumps, heat exchangers etc. The Maintenance & Project Planner for is responsible for the efficient planning, scheduling, and coordination of all maintenance activities to ensure optimal performance and reliability of natural gas-powered generation facilities. This role will work closely with maintenance teams, engineers, and operations staff to develop maintenance plans that enhance safety, efficiency, and plant uptime. 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with safety, health, and environmental policies and regulations.
  • Develop risk assessments, method statements, and safety protocols for maintenance work.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections in collaboration with the safety team.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize comprehensive preventive maintenance schedules for equipment and systems within the CHP plants.
  • Review, prioritize, and plan corrective maintenance tasks in response to equipment failures, ensuring minimal downtime and operational disruption.
  •  Coordinate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to align schedules with plant availability and operational needs.
  •  Prepare detailed work packages including scope of work, materials, tools, safety procedures, and resource requirements.
  • Allocate and coordinate labour, materials, parts, and equipment necessary for the maintenance work.
  •  Collaborate with Office Administrator to ensure timely availability of spare parts and materials.
  •  Work with third-party contractors and vendors as needed, ensuring they adhere to safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, including work orders, equipment history, and completed schedules.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as downtime, maintenance costs, and equipment reliability.
  •  Produce maintenance reports and updates for management and stakeholders.

  •   Analyse plant performance and reliability data to identify areas for improvement.
  •  Implement strategies to improve maintenance efficiency, equipment reliability, and reduce unplanned outages.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Maintenance Management, or related field, or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in maintenance planning, preferably in industrial plants, or related industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance management systems (CMMS), work order processes, and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Proficiency in using CMMS software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals, and P&IDs.
  • Maintenance Planning & Scheduling Certification (desired)
  • OSHA or equivalent safety certifications (desired)
  • Ability to work in industrial plant conditions, including exposure to high temperatures, loud noises, and outdoor environments.
  • Occasionally lifting heavy tools or equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and at heights when required.
  • Primarily based in Kingston, with occasional travel to other plant locations as needed.
  • This role requires the ability to work flexible hours and weekends, including overtime and on-call responsibilities.
