SALARY SCALE: $6,641,033.65 - $7,609,552.15
JOB SUMMARY:
The incumbent is allowed a great deal of autonomy to make all engineering related decisions when on duty and is responsible for maintaining and operating all engineering equipment and engine room machinery including deck and portable equipment on board the buoy tender, ensuring they are maintained in first class condition consistent with business classification standard.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency Regulation III/3
- Minimum five (5) years marine engineering experience, of which at least 3 years must be served as an Engineering Watchkeeping Officer onboard an ocean-going vessel of 750 – 3000 kW.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Knowledge and experience with all shipboard systems, equipment and duties of an Engineer Watch-keeping on board an ocean-going vessel of not less than 522 KW
- Operation of marine diesel engines, steering systems, winches and other onboard machinery and equipment
- Mechanical/electrical engineering, electrical systems and welding techniques.
- Bunkering procedures and spill containment
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, engineering materials, marine engines, electrical engineering, marine plant maintenance practices, automation and control systems, refrigeration, instrumentation, and control system clean-up.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain the engine room in a condition acceptable for inspection by the coastguard and other maritime authorities.
- Ensure that there is a surplus of fuel and spare parts.
- Provide support for the maintenance/repairs to navigational aids and equipment.
- Monitor all the on-board instruments, interpret the readings, advise the captain and take the actions required to maintain the safe operation of the vessel.
- Undertake a proper hand over before departing the vessel.
- Advise the incoming Engineer on what transpired in the last watch and give all information inclusive of soundings, ongoing repairs, scheduled maintenance/ repairs, equipment failure(s) etc.
- Ensure the technical integrity of the critical operational systems needed for the efficient and safe operation of the ship, in a timely and technically appropriate manner to any performance problems, which might arise from time to time.
