JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) Finance, Risk and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) will support the Senior Vice President of Finance with the oversight of the company’s finance, including but not limited to, collaborating with territories to review their financial performance, optimising financial processes and ensuring that entities are meeting their overall strategic goals. In addition, the AVP will be responsible for the deployment and oversight of the company’s enterprise risk management framework and developing and integrating ESG initiatives. This role is critical in safeguarding the company’s assets, reputation, and financial performance as well as advancing the company's sustainability goals, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing overall corporate responsibility.

 

This role demands a strategic thinker with a strong background in finance and risk management, complemented by a deep understanding of ESG principles.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Finance Management:

  • Review financial performance and to provide insights to senior management.
  • Oversee the budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes (accuracy and timeliness) and tracking of same with variance analysis against targets.
  • Coordinate cash flow forecasting and analysis of cash spent within the territories (ensuring dividend payment obligations)
  • Keep abreast of IFRS standards and its applicability.
  • Provide stewardship from a finance perspective into strategic projects (eg. acquisitions, divestitures, new locations).
  • Drive continuous improvement in the financial systems and processes.
  • Coordinate with external auditors the timely completion of audits in line with company deadlines and without any material misstatements
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting principles, and internal controls.
  • Prepare/Review financial board papers and papers.
  • Maintain oversight over the Treasury function.

Enterprise Risk Management:

  • Collaborate with the Risk Department to design and implement an enterprise risk management framework to identify, assess, monitor and mitigate risks.
  • Focus on key strategic risks that can adversely impact the company's strategic decisions, business model, or external factors that impact its long-term objectives.
  • Work with all territories/Operating Companies to ensure that key risk management practices are integrated into business processes and decision-making.
  • Assess the effectiveness of remediation plans for risks and control deficiencies and promote cross functional approach to risk mitigation strategies where possible
  • Assess Key Controls and work with management to adjust strategies accordingly
  • Conduct a review of risks with to ensure the impact and likelihood of existing and emerging risks on business objectives are identified.
  • Maintain the risk register and Prepare risk reports as required for Senior Management, and the Board.
  • Ensure that policies and procedures across are created, maintained and compliant with established standards and regulations.
  • Foster a strong risk culture by building risk awareness throughout the organisation.

ESG Strategy and Implementation:

  • Develop, oversee and monitor the implementation of the company’s ESG strategy, including policies, initiatives, and reporting.
  • Lead and manage ESG-related programmes and initiatives, including environmental sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and corporate governance.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including investors, customers, employees, and regulatory bodies, to promote transparency and address sustainability concerns.
  • Assess potential sustainability risks, develop mitigation strategies, and monitor emerging trends and regulations in the sustainability and ESG landscape.
  • Implement systems and processes for collecting, tracking, and reporting ESG data.
  • Monitor and analyse ESG metrics and performance indicators, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant ESG regulations, standards, and frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD).
  • Act as the primary liaison with internal and external stakeholders to drive ESG-related initiatives and improvements.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of ESG reports.
  • Stay abreast of ESG trends, metrics and best practices to continuously enhance the company’s ESG efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • ACCA, FCCA qualified
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, Business, or related field and MBA in Finance, Risk or other field of business.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in finance, risk management, and/or ESG roles, with at least 3- 5 years in a leadership position
  • Certifications in risk management or ESG is an asset.
  • Prior experience in Mergers & Acquisitions / Divestitures is an asset.
