This position is responsible for assisting with providing accurate, up-to-date accounting data and records to management to facilitate financial tracking, planning and decision-making, and to assist with the management and administration of the Company’s Accounting Function.

Assistant Chief Accountant

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in establishing & maintaining policies and procedures to ensure that the checks and balances in the Company’s Accounting Systems and Controls are effective in mitigating and/or minimize losses. Evaluates these systems and recommends modifications as needed.
• Assist in providing technical support and training to Head Office and Site Office staff in accounting related activity and the financial software Sage
• Work with the External Auditors, Accounting & Taxation Consultants, ensuring effective Tax management and conformance with required Accounting Standards of Jamaica.
• Participate in audit exercises, providing auditors with the required information and schedules, ensuring smooth and efficient audits.
• Assist with ensuring the accurate preparation of weekly the Cash flow reports and monthly and annual bank reconciliations for the Company and its subsidiaries.
• Assist in the preparation of Monthly Profit & Loss Statements and Job Cost Reports for various operations/ segments for review by Senior Management.
• Supervises, review and approves Site invoices and vouchers for payments. These include Fortnightly Labour Payrolls for sub-contractors and Equipment.
• Supervises, review and approves Sub-Contractors Retention payments when due.
• Review all journal entries prepared by the team to ensure proper classification of expenditure.
• Supervise and ensure all statutory payments and filing for GDL are done on time. These include the Annual Income Tax Returns, and Monthly and annual statutory returns.
• Assist in ensuring that The Company Income Tax Return and Estimated Income Returns are filed and payments made on time,
• Assist in ensuring that the annual Review and Tax Returns for the directors are carried out and all payments are made by the required due dates.
• Plan, organizes, direct, and controls the workload of the Accounting Department.
• Supervise and guide the Accounting Department in preparation of accurate, timely and complete information for financial reporting.
• Check all receipts and lodgments and ensure transactions are accurately processed and deposited to bank accounts observing all the requisite internal controls and safeguards.
• Assist with management for the commercial rental properties by monitoring the annual budget exercise, ensuring that expenditure is in line with budget. Review tenants lease agreements and ensure tenants receive accurate invoices on time. Assist in the screening of new tenants.
• Any other functions or projects that is required periodically from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Post graduate degree in Accounting or ACCA Level 111
• Five (5) years related work experience
• Sound competence in IFRS accounting standards
• Proficient in Microsoft office software
• Working knowledge of Sage software would be an asset
• Knowledge of cost accounting.
• Audit experience would be an asset.
• Experience in construction would be an asset
• Knowledge of Jamaican and US Tax would be an asset
• Own a motor car is an asset
