The Finance and Accounts Manager will lead the Accounting Department and maintain and improve the financial wellbeing of the Credit Union though the application of appropriate financial controls and the provision of timely and accurate reports and financial advice.

The Company and the Position

Our client, a leading organisation in the Credit Union sector, is seeking to engage a Finance and Accounts Manager.  The Finance and Accounts Manager will lead the Accounting Department and maintain and improve the financial wellbeing of the Credit Union though the application of appropriate financial controls and the provision of timely and accurate reports and financial advice. These should facilitate effective executive decision making that minimizes risk and optimizes the returns on the Credit Union's investments.

Key responsibilities include

  1. Monitor and advise the board and management on the organization's performance in keeping with the PEARLS performance ratios, particularly in the area of Capital Adequacy. Delinquency and Liquidity.
  2. Prepare and certify monthly branch and consolidated reports on a timely basis for presentation to the board and management to reflect the Credit Union’s financial position and to assist the CEO and Board of Directors in their decision making.
  3. Prepare Management Accounts within the agreed timeframes.
  4. Ensure the timely preparation of all bank reconciliations within agreed timeframes.
  5. Effectively administer the company's treasury function by interacting with the Credit Union's bankers and financial institutions.
  6. Develop and review policies and procedures as they relate to the efficient financial operations of PSCU Credit Union.
  7. Prepare the Annual Financial Accounts for auditing within the agreed timeframes.
  8. Prepare and monitor of the annual income and Expenditure budgets of the Credit Union.
  9. Advise the Board as to measures to be taken to align the actual budgetary outcome where such outcomes are at variance with the projected budget.
  10. Manage the Credit Union's cash flow requirements through the timely collection of revenues and disbursement of payments.
  11. Liaise with the Credit Union's bankers and other financial institutions to ensure the efficient transfer and movement of funds.
  12. Maintain an updated register of the Credit Union's fixed assets.
  13. Ensure that financial and accounting records are maintained in accordance with sound accounting principles and practices.
  14. Oversee the cost-efficient procurement of goods and professional services in accordance with established procurement practices to support excellence in the delivery of member services;
  15. Oversee the timely preparation of annual employees' statements for income tax purposes;
  16. Oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll.
  17. Ensure compliance with all legal and tax requirements as well as all international Accounting Standards and all relevant International Financial Reporting Standards.
  18. Prepare business analysis for all PSCU's investments on a quarterly basis and in conjunction with the CEO.
  19. Plan and coordinates the work program for the Accounting Unit to support the Credit Union's Operations Plans
  20. Supervise the Accounts Department and prepare performance appraisals along with recommendation or performance improvement and training as required.
  21. Performs any other duties related to the job function as may be assigned.

 

Qualifications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
  • ACCA Qualified or equivalent
  • Master's Degree Finance will be an asset.
  • Professional accounting designation (CIMA. CGA, CMA. CPA) would be on asset

 

Experience and Knowledge

  • A minimum of seven (7) years' experience performing similar functions preferably in a similar industry
  • Five (5) years managerial experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of the legislation and operating principles governing credit union accounting.
  • In-depth knowledge of IAS/IFRS accounting standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial reporting methods.
  • Experience working with the Emortelle software will be an asset
