This role will combine accounting skills with business management skills. The incumbent analyzes the financial performance of the businesses/ profit centers and advises on how to pre-empt problems, adapt to changing circumstances and improve value working as part of a team.

JOB SUMMARY 

Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Accountant is responsible for establishing and maintaining financial policies and management information systems on all aspects of finance directly related to the Company’s business activities. These business activities include construction, maintenance (on-shore and off-shore), fabrication shops, and any newly established businesses/ profit centers. This role will combine accounting skills with business management skills. The incumbent analyzes the financial performance of the businesses/ profit centers and advises on how to pre-empt problems, adapt to changing circumstances and improve value working as part of a team. This portfolio includes working alongside the Company’s Financial Auditors and Clients to ensure compliance with contractual, code, statutory, regulatory and customer requirements and specifications. 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Prepares monthly financial statements, including profit and loss accounts, budgets, cash flows, variance analysis and commentaries.
  2. Advises on the financial implications and consequences of business decisions and ways of improving business performance.
  3. Advises managers on the costs and benefits of projects/profit centers in relation to contemplated capital expenditures, such as equipment, machinery, etc.
  4. Monitors spending and effectiveness of financial control.
  5. Interprets and communicates financial data to non-financial managers and places the financial view in context.
  6. Monitors and evaluates the financial information systems in effect and makes recommendations for improvement.
  7. Prepares invoicing projection and liaises with Project Managers to ensure invoices are submitted on time.
  8. Reviews projects, as they relate to purchase orders, and verifies the availability of funds budgeted.
  9. Prepares costing of Damus’ equipment and assets on a monthly basis.
  10. Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  11. Achieve the organization’s objectives and targets for business performance through forecasting, planning and implementation of data controls.
  12. Communicate with the Executive Management Team on financial activities.
  13. Take appropriate action (planning, reviewing and execution) to evaluate and mitigate risk associated with the work scope being supervised, monitored and or executed.

KEY COMPETENCIES / REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

  • Working knowledge of accounting software such as Peachtree, Sage 50, etc.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite and databases.
  • Familiarity with the use and application of  International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Working knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements specific to the Country of Operation.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Professional qualification in Accounting such as the CMA, ACCA or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated competency and/or competencies normally acquired over a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in Accounting and/or Finance.
  • Training and/or certification in system auditing.
