ACCOUNTANT

 

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

To produce accurate and comprehensive financial accounts, statements, and management reports in accordance with International Accounting Standards.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Financial/Risk 

      Ensures that expenses are properly approved and recorded in line with preset budget.

      Ensures that receivables and payables are effectively managed.

      Contributes positively to ensure that Department and Company achieve at least a ‘Satisfactory’ or better Audit                Rating with respect to financial controls and governance.

      Ensures that all assets and liabilities are recorded and accounted for in the books of the Association.

      Assists with the Asset / Liability Management practices of the Association.

      Ensures that the organization’s financial resources are managed efficiently with respect to cashflow requirements,            financial structure, and prudential requirements.

 

Internal Operations

 Assists in ensuring the maintenance, verification and integrity of the company’s accounting and financial records:

 Monthly reconciliation of all non-member accounts, ensuring that items are closely followed for clearance and investigates all outstanding items.

 Authorized and execute adjusting entries, month end journals and processing entries to correct any discrepancies/errors that may arise

 Consolidates and review monthly revenue and expense figures to produce monthly financial statements so that the Association decision making would be made on accurate financial information.

Prepares journal entries and reconciles general ledger and subsidiary control accounts; prepares monthly financial statements, including distributing monthly revenue and expenditure reports to management 

 Ensures that appropriate controls are in place to prevent and avoid misuse and irregularity of the Association assets

 Maintains and balances the Fixed Asset register, ensuring that the monthly depreciation expense is accurately recorded, purchases and disposals correctly booked, ensuring compliance with appropriate approval guidelines

 Maintains the Investment register, ensuring that the monthly interest accrual is accurately recorded, new investments and withdrawals are correctly booked, ensuring compliance with appropriate approval guidelines

 Assists with the preparation of the annual budgets.

 Monitor the expenditure, performance, and achievement of company against approved plans, prepares management reports, variance reports, analyzing results with comparisons to budget and prior year.

 Assists in opening and closing vaults and premises and monitoring access to vaults and premises, ensuring proper custody of cash, keys, passwords, and adequate security controls to safeguard people and assets.

 Monitors contractual arrangements with external parties re cleaning and maintenance of all premises to ensure reasonable costs and payment terms, compliance with contract terms and satisfactory performance against standards set.

 Prepares and implements a regular maintenance schedule to monitor, maintain and support:

 ▪  Premises

 ▪  Vehicles

 ▪  Equipment as necessary

 Oversees arrangements, concerns, and queries with company tenants for payment of rent and other facilities as required. 

Assists in updating manuals and in reviewing, developing and documenting systems and procedures to ensure the improved efficiency of the overall operation.

 Manages individual workflow effectively, keeping workstation clean and tidy, always ensuring adequate stationery necessary for efficient functioning, equipment properly maintained, providing reports as required, ensuring that routine operations are efficiently conducted.

 STAFFING SPECIFICATION

 Recognized Accounting Qualification e.g., ACCA, CIMA etc.

 Experience of a minimum of five (5) years in a similar position in a financial environment will be an asset.

 Organized, thorough and accurate with sound integrity and initiative

 Strong analytical skills

 Good interpersonal and communications skills

 Flexible team player

 Computer Literate with advanced proficiency in the Microsoft suite

 Global mindset
