Located in the southern Caribbean, off the coast of the northern part of Venezuela, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is part of the Lesser Antilles. Trinidad is listed as one of the richest nations in the Caribbean. In fact, the republic is touted as being among one of the 66 countries in the world that feature high employee incomes.  Only the Bahamas is considered wealthier.

Therefore, for anyone who has his sights set on working in Trinidad and Tobacco, they can expect to live a financially healthy lifestyle. That’s because the Caribbean state is mainly influenced by companies that are petroleum-based. Opportunities for work can be found in companies that supply liquefied natural gas, petrochemicals, and steel. In addition, people looking toward working in Trinidad and Tobago can find opportunities in the tourism industry as well. So, whether you want to enjoy the amenities offered by the travel field or direct your energies, say, toward, an engineering career, the island republic has much to offer you if you decide to settle and work in this part of the world.

The following questions then can help you better determine if you want to consider working in Trinidad and Tobago for a major firm or a smaller type of enterprise.


#1 – What is the management style of the manager who runs the department where I’ll be working? This is a key question you want to pose as you want to make sure that the way your boss works fits in with how you work as well.

#2 – Has your company gone through any major change in the past year? Asking this question can give you an idea about what direction the company is headed.

#3 – What are some of the key goals you want to see accomplished in the job for which I’m applying? Get an understanding about what your employer expects from you in your job role.

#4 – What is the nature of the working environment? Does the pace stay farily consistent? Or, are there times during the year where there is a rush of assignments? You need the answer to this question, especially if you are someone who likes to know what to expect in any given day.

#5 – Will I have a certain degree of autonomy in the job? If you are someone who likes to work on your own or doesn’t like someone standing over your shoulder, then you need to find out more about your latitude in this regard.

#4 – What is the timeline for making a hiring decision? When may I recontact you? Show that you are keenly interested in the job, especially if you believe it fulfills your expectations.

Whether you are planning on working in Trinidad and Tobago for a major employer or a small company, the above questions can help you decide whether or not you will appropriately fit into the work environment. Don’t discount the importance of asking the right questions. After all, you spend a good part of your day at your job.
