A Little Bit about the Island

Saint Lucia is a volcanic isle that is located in the eastern part of the Caribbean in close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. Its capital city is Castries and it operates under a parliamentary democracy. The country gained its independence from the UK in February 1979.

An island landmark is the Pitons – two mountains that form an interesting backdrop along with Mount Gimie which is the highest point on the mountainous isle. Tourism is the island’s largest industry with tourists primarily visiting the Saint Lucia during its dry season, which regularly occurs from January through April.

Therefore, most job seekers who look for work on Saint Lucia seek jobs in the tourist trade. While it may sound ideal to seek work on a Caribbean island, especially in travel, certain factors will still influence your overall happiness with respect to working and living in Saint Lucia. According to research findings, people who are happier in their work environment maintain a flexible work schedule. This type of latitude on the job enables them to also better manage their lives personally. With flexible scheduling, employees are able to balance both work life and home life more successfully.

Support at Work Influences Job Satisfaction

Research also concluded that employees who are happier on the job feel that they receive the needed support from other employees and the people who manage them. Therefore, they are able to take on tasks with a minimum of difficulty and feel more confident about offering their viewpoints or ideas.

Appreciation Played a Part in Happiness on the Job Too

Another factor researchers found that kept employees motivated and happy was the feeling that they felt their activities were valued. This type of appreciation was often the result of the employee feeling like he was part of the inter-workings of the department. In addition, employees who were more satisfied in their jobs felt like they had more freedom to try new approaches at work or broaden their skills.

Other Key Influences

Aesthetics influenced job satisfaction too as research showed that a nice decor positively affected people’s disposition. Happier employees, it was found, had a variety of responsibilities, which added to job interest and contributed to growth.
