JOB SPECIFICATION

SKILLS 

• Excellent customer service skills 

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 

• Able to follow instructions and procedures 

• Basic computer skills 

Qualification/Education 

• 5 CXC/CSEC subjects including Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics 

• Phlebotomy Certification 

• At least 2 years relevant experience 

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality as required by the professional code of conduct 

• Collect blood samples from patients 

• Practice proper patient identification 

• Correctly label vials with patient names and dates 

• Decipher the best method for drawing blood depending on the specific patient 

• Electronically record receipt of all specimens in Laboratory Information Systems 

• Centrifuge specimens 

• Work with a large number of patients varying in age and health status 

• Keep phlebotomy cart or station well-organized at all times 

• Practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipment 

• Maintains equipment, supplies and work areas. Assist in ensuring a clean and safe environment and work area.

• Distribute specimen to relevant departments 

• Compliance with competence testing.
