Department: Analytical Chemistry
Reports To: Senior Chemist/Lab Manager
Position Scope:
The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of tasks to support the activities
of the laboratory including field sampling, conducting laboratory tests, recording
relevant data, and operating and/or maintaining relevant equipment. The incumbent
will also be required to provide support to senior staff members.
Key Duties And Responsibilities:
- Conduct field sample collection, inspections and site visits.
- Inspect, receive and register samples.
- Prepare samples and perform a wide range of chemical/environmental sample tests.
- Record test data and prepare worksheets and test reports.
- Assist with analysis and trending of data e.g., test results and quality control.
- Operate, calibrate and maintain equipment used for tests as required.
- Prepare reagents used for tests.
- Monitor inventory of equipment and chemical consumables used for tests.
- Prepare Purchase Requisitions for consumables
- Review and update laboratory logs as assigned.
- Assist with method development, verification and validation.
- Compliance with all aspects of the Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality (HSSEQ) Management systems.
- Assist in lab clean-up and sample/chemical disposal operations.
- Any other related duties as assigned by Laboratory Management.
Education:
- Technician’s Diploma or BSc. from a recognized institution, in the field of Chemistry, or Environmental Science.
Experience:
- 2-5 years’ experience in a laboratory environment
- Experience with chemicals in a lab environment would be an asset.
- Experience in filing and record keeping.
- Experience with ISO/IEC 17025 & ISO 9001:2015 standards will be an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities etc.:
- Proficiency in MS Office – Word and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Positive attitude.
- Flexibility.
- Good customer service skills.
- Knowledge of basic Chemistry and common chemicals used in a laboratory.
- Understanding of basic mathematical calculations and formulas.
- Experience in filing and record keeping.
