The BVI Health Services Authority (a client-centered healthcare organization) invites qualified and professional applicants to apply for the position of Senior Medical Officer who manages the Community Health Medical and Dental Services and provides leadership for the Community Health Medical and Dental Staff. The Senior Medical Officer of Health ensures that the standards of Medical and Dental practices are maintained and the objectives of the BVI HSA are achieved across the Territory.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to):
Administration
1. Ensures the efficient administration of the Community Medical and Dental Service in keeping with the goals of the BVI Health Services Authority.
2. Advises the Director of Primary Healthcare Services on matters related to the Community Health Medical and Dental Services' administration.
3. Ensures that clinical governance program and activities are implemented into the overall medical and dental services and programs.
4. Submit monthly audit reports of Community Health Medical Officers case files
5. Serves as a member of governance committees as guided by the DMPHC.
Human Resources
1. Provide recommendations to the Director of Primary Healthcare on the recruitment selection, appointment, promotion, discipline, or transfer of medical staff.
2. Coordinates and advises the Director of Primary Healthcare on all other human resource issues related to the Community Health Medical and dental services.
3. Ensures that performance management activities are completed promptly.
4. Coordinates activities to enhance the professional development of medical officers.
Program Development
1. In conjunction with the Director of Primary Healthcare and other service managers, plans, executes and monitors community health programs, policies and procedures.
2. Ensures adequate coverage of Community Health Services with medical and dental personnel according to the goals of the department.
Minimum Requirements:
Educational/Training Requirements/ Experience
v Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) registerable in the BVI
v Post graduate qualification (MPH or equivalent) in public health or primary care medicine
v Membership of a Medical Defense Organization/Insurance Coverage for negligence. The post holder is expected to be a member of a recognized medical defense organization or to have insurance coverage in lieu of such membership.
v Five (5) years post-registration experience in the field of primary care medicine
v A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a senior management position in primary health care at a county/parish/national level
Licenses/Certifications:
v Must be duly licensed in Country of Origin and be in good standing
v Must be licensed in the BVI

SALARY: $73,601.00 - $80,225.00 (Commensurate with qualifications and experience)
