JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: CLERK OF WORKS
JOB SUMMARY: Advanced technical work in the field of construction of buildings and engineering projects.
REPORTS TO: Systems Engineer
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
An officer in this class performs a variety of complex technical tasks in connection with the development of building construction and engineering works. The officer, after liaising with the Systems Engineer, conveys his or her concerns with respect to adherence to instructions, plans, specifications, cost and time etc. The works include but are not limited to the following:
- To act as Clerk of Works on project sites and developments.
- To fully comprehend the detailed requirements of all drawings and specifications and to ensure that these are followed by the Contractor.
- To visit sites daily to ensure projects awarded to Contractors are executed in accordance with the drawings and specifications, inspects the works of Contractors for compliance with plans and specifications, inspects the quality of materials to be used, checks on variations from plans or specifications, checks works performed, materials stored on site, plant and equipment on site, maintains records of quantum of materials, equipment and labour employed, checks Contractors’ bills of payment.
- To develop scope of works and conduct the necessary measurements for works of varying nature as required and prepare the tender documents/bills of quantities for pricing.
- To monitor and record quality of materials and workmanship on site and ensure that these meet stated standards and specifications.
- To ensure that building standards for health and safety and workmanship are adhered to and report these to the Systems Engineer.
- To undertake snagging and defect inspections with Contractors and report on these to the Systems Engineer.
- To conduct daily on-site observations and work in progress.
- To provide reports on all on-site matters, including third party inspections, progress, safety concerns and cost and time including third party causes for delay.
- To provide photographic evidence to support any claims and deviations from the contract documents to support any claims and variations by the Contractor.
- To perform other related work as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Minimum five (5) years working experience in a similar position in the construction of building and engineering projects; and training as evidenced by a National Certificate in Engineering Surveying or related field or training in any combination of the following:
