JOB SUMMARY
The Electroencephalographic Technologist functions a resource medical personnel to physicians, family members and hospital staff. The EEG Technologist prepares and performs EEGs and other test in the scope of practice as well as provides findings, results, and descriptive analysis for diagnoses.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed.
- Preparing patient and performing Electroencephalograms, Ambulatory EEG’s, BAER’s, VEP and other tests within the scope of practice;
- Edits and prepare tests for reading by a doctor;
- Reports findings or concerns to reading doctors for prompt interpretation.
- Arranges immobilization and/or support device for proper patient positioning and adjusts shields;
- Performs other duties as directed by the Senior Neurophysiology Technologist or Medical Heads;

- Recognises and monitors ictal and inter-ictal electrographic patterns;
- Performs respiratory care for patients of sleep disorder testing;
- Prepares facilities in accordance with procedural requirements;
- Calibrate equipment, and prepares medicine and materials as required;
- Cleans and disinfects equipment in accordance with sterile procedures and standards;
- Explains protocols and procedures to patients, and position patients as appropriate to prescribed procedure as well as assist patients at the end of the procedure;
- Determines appropriate methodology and techniques to use in administering quantities for procedures;
- Determines appropriate calibrations and/or techniques, arranges immobilizations and/or support devices an selects appropriate device/equipment;
- Maintains stock supplies and assists administrators in determining quantities for purchase;
- Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices;
- Observes health and safety protocols in the execution of duties;
- Using customer service skills establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials and members of the general public;
- Performs any other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to handle clinical seizure and/or other medical emergencies as required.
- Experience / background with performing respiratory care of sleep disorder testing.
- Excellent organizational and management skills.
- Excellent problem solving, interpersonal and motivational skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to prepare complex reports.
- Ability to effectively function in a fast-paced environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A Registered Nurse with an Associate’s Degree Electroencephalogram, or Electrodiagnositc Technology with two year relevant experience
- A Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s Degree in Neurophysiology Technology;
- An Electroencephalogram or Electrodiagnositc Technology Diploma with five years’ experience.
