JOB SPECIFICATION
Core Functions:
The Crematory Operator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the crematorium while directly handling cremation procedures. The incumbent will ensure compliance with safety regulations, security protocols, and operational guidelines while maintaining the dignity and professionalism of cremation services. The individual will also manage equipment maintenance and coordinate with funeral homes and families.
(a) Specific Knowledge:
- Knowledge of cremation safety regulations, compliance standards, and security procedures.
(b) Qualifications and Experience:
- Certificate or Diploma in Mortuary Science, Funeral Services, or Crematory Operations (Preferred)
- High School Diploma with passes in English Language and Mathematics
- Certificate in Supervisory Management or Level 3 NVQ-J Certificate (Desired)
- 1-2 years’ experience in crematorium operations, funeral services, or a related field (Preferred)

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1. Cremation Operations
i. Perform all cremation procedures following manufacturer guidelines and legal regulations.
ii. Verify all required paperwork and identification tags before cremation.
iii. Ensure proper handling of remains, including placement in burnable caskets and transfer of ashes to urns.
iv.Maintain accurate records of all cremations performed at the facility.
v. Handle large and casketed cremations using proper techniques to ensure safety and efficiency.
2. Facility & Equipment Management
i. Conduct start-up and shut-down procedures for the crematorium daily.
ii. Perform routine inspections of cremation equipment, including the retort, ventilation, and safety systems.
iii. Troubleshoot and address minor technical issues with cremation machinery.
iv. Coordinate with manufacturers and technicians for servicing, repairs, and compliance inspections.
3. Security & Compliance
i. Ensure facility security, including arming/disarming alarm systems and monitoring CCTV cameras.
ii. Enforce access control protocols to restrict entry to authorized personnel only.
iii. Adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations regarding cremation operations.
iv. Implement waste management procedures for medical and general waste disposal.
4. Administrative & Customer Coordination
i. Serve as the point of contact for funeral homes, ensuring smooth scheduling and communication.
ii. Supervise and train crematorium staff on operational and safety procedures.
iii. Maintain logs and reports on cremations, equipment maintenance, and incidents.
iv. Provide information and support to families regarding the cremation process when necessary.
5. Ensuring compliance with:
i. All the laws of the Country
ii. All the policies and procedures of the Company (Human Resource, Levels of Authority, Procurement Policy) plus any other implemented from time to time.
6. Performing any other duties that may be required
Special Conditions associated with the job:
- Requires physical activity, including lifting and handling remains.
- Work in an environment with exposure to high temperatures and chemical processes.
- May require flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, based on operational needs.
