The Children's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago is a specialized agency with the responsibility for the care and protection of children, especially those who are at risk or have been victims of abuse or neglect.

The Children's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago is seeking to recruit for the role of Workplace & HSSE Officer (Tobago), on contract.

The The Workplace & Health, Safety, Security and Environment Officer will be responsible for ensuring the safety, security and environmental compliance of the Authority’s facilities.   This role involves managing and coordinating activities related to workplace, health, safety, security and environmental sustainability.  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BSc. in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Facilities Management or related field.
  • Minimum of four (4) to six (6) years’ experience in Facilities Management and/or Health, Safety, Security and Environment field.
  • Relevant certifications in Health and Safety (e.g. NEBOSH, OSHA, and Environmental Compliance) would be desirable.
Principal Accountabilities/ Key Functions:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee environmental management practices, including waste disposal, energy conservation, and resource management.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental regulations and promoting sustainability initiatives.
  • Implement and monitor security protocols to protect the organization’s assets, personnel, and information.
  • Coordinate with internal and external security personnel and manage security systems.
  • Oversee facility maintenance and operations, ensuring that the physical environment is safe, functional, and in compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Identify potential hazards and conduct risk assessments to mitigate safety and environmental risks.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies.
  • Provide training and raising awareness on health, safety, security, and environmental issues for staff.
  • Ensure that employees understand and adhere to relevant policies and procedures.
  • Respond to and manage incidents related to health, safety, security, or environmental issues.
  • Conduct investigations and prepare reports on incidents and accidents.
  • Keep up-to-date with relevant regulations and ensure that the Authority remains compliant with all applicable health, safety, security, and environmental laws.
  • Conduct regular visual inspections of buildings, facilities, and equipment to ensure they are functioning optimally. Identify and report deficiencies to management.  
  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs in areas such as electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing, and air conditioning.
  • Provide detailed information for use in costing and budgetary exercises. Prepare technical specifications for procurement of equipment and estimates for contracted services.
  • Ensure that Work Order forms are accurately completed and submitted to the Manager, Tobago Operations, on a weekly basis.  Promptly communicate any unresolved service issues to the Manager.
  • Monitor the performance of contractors and vendors providing services to ensure work is completed according to agreed specifications and standards.
  • Support the Manager, Tobago Operations, in developing, implementing, monitoring, and reviewing the Occupational Health and Safety policies, programs, and procedures. Design and implement health and safety awareness programs for employees.
  • Partner with the HSSE Manager and Workplace Manager to establish and maintain protocols and procedures for responding to security incidents.
  • Work closely with the HSSE Manager and Workplace Manager to Coordinate emergency procedures and ensure that security and facility standards and policies are consistently observed.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Manager, Tobago Operations.
