Barita Investments Limited invites suitable qualified candidates for the role of Vice President, Risk Management.
ROLE AND CORE FUNCTION
The Vice President, Risk Management is responsible for development and management of risk models to support the risk functions within the Group. This includes involvement in the various system implementation projects to ensure risk parameters are properly specified and key data for ongoing risk analytics are captured.
The Vice President, Risk Management is also responsible for ensuring the adequacy of models, tools and processes to support the identification, measurement, and monitoring of Financial and non-financial Risks throughout the Group.
The Vice President, Risk Management will have responsibilities in maintaining the Enterprise Risk Management Framework throughout the Group; identifying, measuring, monitoring and tracking operational and other non-financial risks throughout the group; and supporting the product development process with risk management, operational and information technology related subject-matter expertise.
The incumbent should have a very strong understanding of the operational and risk management elements of securities dealer operation in Jamaica.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent responsibilities are:
- Lead the building and maintenance of tools to support the measurement of the Group’s exposures to market, liquidity and credit risks.
- Lead and maintain the tools to support measurement of off-balance sheet portfolios.
- Lead the design and management of credit risk rating and decisioning models.
- Lead the management of the Group’s Expected Credit Loss Models.
- Credit review for adjudication.
- Management of data analytics requirements to support credit and other financial risk analysis.
- Ensure the correct specification of parameters for risk system implementations.
- Ensure that any system implementation captures and appropriately and efficiently stores key data necessary for the effective monitoring and analysis of risk exposures.
- Monitor the business and organizational environment for emerging risks and conduct the required assessments, scenario analyses, and required prioritization.
- Lead the continuous development and deployment of the New Initiative Risk Assessment tool (NIRA) to evaluate major initiatives and form the basis for initiative approval, rejection, or conditional approval. This includes determining the relevant action items required to improve the risk/return trade-off and communicating the results and its implications to Senior Management and other key stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain risk management related policies and procedures across the Group to include financial risk, non-financial risk and enterprise risk management.
- Use data, information, and analysis from existing risk management processes to provide value-added insights to business lines where possible.
- Ensure the effective management of models, tools, processes and databases that support the production of risk reports.
- Provide process and technical guidance for distributed tools that support the financial risk management process.
- Build the bench strength of the unit by facilitating cross-training and other development and skill-building initiatives
- Prepare reports for and present at Management Committee and Board meetings.
- Developing appropriate risk measurement, management and monitoring mechanisms for emerging risk exposures.
- Managing financial risk and profitability models and mechanisms for pricing, business development support, risk management, and performance management purposes.
- Use data, information, and analysis from existing risk management processes to provide value-added insights to business lines where possible.
- Ensure the effective management of models, tools, processes and databases that support the production of risk reports.
- Build the bench strength of the unit by facilitating cross-training and other development and skill-building initiatives.
- Prepare risk analysis where required.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Masters Degree in Economics, Financial Modelling, Finance or Related Discipline
OR
- CFA, ASA and/or FRM designation (or other equivalent)
- Undergraduate degree in mathematics, actuarial science, computer science or applied science disciplines
- Minimum seven (7) years’ experience in risk management
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a managerial or other leadership capacity.
- Excellent knowledge of risk management principles
- Excellent knowledge of investment products and financial markets
- Excellent, model building and data management skills
- Strong knowledge of the regulations and policies governing financial institutions (BOJ and FSC).
- Strong knowledge of securities dealer operations
- Excellent proficiency in data science and analysis
