Vet Assistant

We are seeking a Farrowing Technician to assist with pig farrowing, provide postnatal care, and administer medication. Duties include feeding, basic animal diagnosis, supervising and training staff, maintaining records, and working rotating shifts. Experience in animal care is preferred.

Responsibilities:

1. Be able to administer and post natal care
2. Be able to administer post natal treatment
3. Be able to undertake appropriate feeding of pigs and piglets
4. Be able to temporarily supervise less qualified staff
5. Be able to train less qualified staff
6. Be able to do basic animal diagnosis of condition and requirements
7. Be able to administer preventative medication as well as reactionary medication
8. Be able to keep detailed records as per current farm protocols for farrows, medication, stock, animal weights/growth and movements
9. Be willing and able to work shifts on a rotating schedule.
10. Be able to assist both physically and practically during the farrowing process of the pigs

Qualifications/Requirements

1. Qualified Farm Hand Required
2. Certification from ECIAF or UWI an asset
3. Diploma Students/Pre-Vet candidates welcomed also
4. Agricultural Qualification or Qualifications Preferred
5. Animal Husbandry Degree or Diploma or Certificate an asset
6. Experience preferred but not essential.
7. Be both qualified with any of the above but also willing to be a hands-on person and not an administrator alone.
