Sagicor Bank Jamaica Limited is seeking a suitable candidate to join our Centralized Business Support team in the capacity of:
Validation Assistant (Contract)
Perform the verification of all cheques and vouchers in accordance with the bank’s internal procedures, the clearing house rules and established service level agreements (SLAs).
Location: Kingston
As a Validation Assistant, you will:
- Verify the receipt of inward clearing items by keying and balancing the batches from the matching process to identify missing and free items.
- Prepare missing items log for cheques not received and dispatch to the Supervisor of the unit.
- Record and investigate free items received and submit findings to the Supervisor of the unit.
- Verify inward clearing cheques for defects against the Jamaica Clearing Bankers Clearinghouse rules.
- Check inward clearing cheques below a stipulated sum for crossing stamp and signatures.
- Prepare material defects reports for all items and submit them to the Transfers Local unit.
- Remove rejected items from the day’s work and submit to supervisors within the stipulated time frame.
- Prepare relevant reports and email to branches and follow-up on responses.
- Collect cheques in dual custody from the Clearings unit.
- Sort and distribute cheques and advice.
- Interfile items rejected from the proof machine; sort and prepare items for filing.
- Pull and examine the relevant cheques indicated on the referral sheets immediately upon receipt.
- Submit referral sheets and cheques to the Supervisor.
- Compare signatures on cheques with that on signature cards for authenticity for items ensuring that they are executed as per mandates.
- File all paid cheques behind their respective signature cards.
- Advise Supervisor immediately of suspected forgeries.
- Prepare material defects reports.
- Maintain correspondence file with amended signing instructions from branches.
- Perform other job-related duties assigned from time to time.
What do you need?
- Minimum of six (6) CSEC or GCE level subjects including English Language and Mathematics or a Diploma in Business Management or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of two (2) years working experience in the banking operations department of a commercial banking entity.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
- Knowledge of Securities processing would be an asset.
- Knowledge of Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
- Knowledge of the Bank’s policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the Jamaica Clearing Bankers Association Clearinghouse rules.
- High degree of accuracy and detail orientation.
- Strong team orientation.
- Proficient in RTGS, ACH, T24 and SWIFT applications.
