Roberts Manufacturing Co. Limited a SQF certified manufacturer of shortening, margarine, soybean oil, animal feeds and dog food, invites suitably qualified applicants for the post of VETERINARIAN.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF JOB

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing veterinary and technical analysis, and advice, to local and regional customers in the care and treatment of their livestock and pets, taking into account the current ambit of animals serviced by Pinnacle Feeds Ltd.

The Veterinarian will work closely with Commercial and Technical personnel to investigate and diagnose animal health complaints and conduct medical procedures including immunisations, physical exams, and dental care procedures. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring that feed products are up-to-date with the current nutritional requirements for the intended animals and livestock.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Planning and coordination of training and promotional programmes on feed usage, storage, and animal care;
  • Providing accurate and operational advice (both written and verbal) on biosecurity and animal health issues to internal and external stakeholders in relation to feeding, cleaning, and caring for animals and livestock to promote health;
  • Liaising with the Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Nutritional Security on matters relating to Animal Husbandry, Disease Control and Management;
  • Establishing and maintaining a register for all farmers and feed retailers with the necessary data on their operations;
  • Conducting regular farm visits and providing written reports (monthly – local, per visit – overseas) showing observations, concerns, and recommendations;
  • Complying with regional protocols, legislation, and standards when performing visits to regional customers;
  • Travelling to regional markets to visit with overseas customers and providing veterinary care to their livestock and animals;
  • Liaising with the appropriate authorities, as required, to obtain and relay relevant and credible information to local and regional customers;
  • Obtaining and maintaining case histories relevant to the animals under the care of Pinnacle Feeds Ltd. customers to assist in the investigation, diagnosis, and treatment of animals;
  • Investigating, analysing, and reporting on complaints relating to animal feed and livestock health;
  • Conducting regular checks of storage areas for feeds for both the Company and customers to ensure the integrity of products;
  • Providing regular feedback to the Feed Plant Manager and Quality Assurance Manager on the quality and integrity of feeds as they relate to the nutritional value of the intended animals and livestock;
  • Upholding the value and image of the Company by keeping sensitive and/or proprietary information confidential;
  • Providing essential medical services for animals and livestock including but not limited to: dental exams and dental cleanings, eye examinations, administering medications and immunisations, dressing wounds;
  • Accurately diagnosing and prescribing medications;
  • Developing and implementing biosecurity policies, programs, and projects.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • BSc. in Veterinary Medicine from an accredited undergraduate program.
  • Three (3) years’ relevant experience in the field of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Administration.
  • Be registered with the Barbados Veterinary Council to practice veterinary medicine locally.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other computer-based applications.
  • Knowledge of protocols on the care of animals and livestock in compliance with the Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health Act, 2022 of Barbados and other relevant regional legislation;
  • Practical knowledge of modern animal production and animal husbandry;
  • Knowledge and understanding of local and regional animal production industries, animal pests and diseases affecting local and regional livestock;
  • Knowledge of local and regional animal health statuses, emergency disease preparedness and response, and international animal health standards;
  • Demonstrable experience in designing, leading, or delivering on projects;
  • Knowledge of the nutritional and food safety requirements for animal husbandry and general animal health;
  • Flexibility to travel to regional countries and perform veterinary services to export customers’;
  • Experience in, and commitment to, supporting a collaborative team environment;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong Customer Service and interpersonal skills.
