Transmission & Distribution Planning Technician

To assist the T&D Planner in the provision of high quality T&D Engineering services to the company primarily in the areas of designing and managing overhead and underground line construction with supervision from senior planners.

To assist the T&D Planner in the provision of high quality T&D Engineering services to the company primarily in the areas of designing and managing overhead and underground line construction with supervision from senior planners. To also assist in performing T&D Line Asset Inspections and generating work orders for construction works.  Also ensuring completion of ‘as-built’ drawings in the FTCI mapping system for network change documentation.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of Customer Cost Estimates for installations or activities involving FortisTCI Personnel/equipment or the installation of additional plant over and above the minimum company investment.
• Assist with updates and maintenance of the work order process for T&D Planning
• Assist with design and layout of underground and overhead transmission and distribution lines to established standards to meet the present and future needs of the electrical system.
• Provide input in the preparation of Distribution Standards, Safety Practices and Work Methods.
• Perform Asset Inspections on the T&D network and follow-up with work orders to be executed by FTCI line construction and maintenance teams.

General Responsibilities:

• Participate in the development of policies and procedures that govern all of the above responsibilities.
• Review inventory min/max levels for all pertinent materials to ensure that adequate levels are always maintained.
• Assist the Transmission and Distribution Departments in associated required tasks.
• Follow all safety regulations in accordance with the FTCI Environmental Health and Safety Management System.
• Other duties & responsibilities which may be assigned.

Academic/Technical/Management Experience & Qualifications:

• Associates Degree or Completion of Sixth Form studies in a related electrical field
• Completion of apprentice level training in related electrical field or a minimum of 2 years’ experience in an electric utility environment would be an asset. 
• Competence with digital computer aided design tools (CAD) would be an asset.
• Must possess a valid Turks and Caicos Driver’s license and a clean police record.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to multi task effectively.
• Ability to utilize computers in the Windows environment
• Ability to read maps.
