The Operation Technician IV works as part of a shift and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the process plant to which assigned.

What you will do:

 

Technician, Operations II 

 

  • Frequently inspect all equipment to determine its condition and report to the Panel Operator and Shift Supervisor.
  • Start, adjust and shut down equipment within approved guidelines, as required to maintain proper operating conditions within specified area/areas and inform Panel Operator and Shift Supervisor of actions taken.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation and isolation of equipment for maintenance, within specified area/areas, in accordance with operations process safety management procedures.
  • Take readings of various instruments as often as determined by Plant Supervision and record these readings in log sheets or logbooks and reports abnormal readings immediately to Panel Operator and Shift Supervisor.
  • Collect samples for laboratory analysis and perform simple plant tests as set out in the sample schedule or as determined by Supervisor.
  • Assist in startup and shutdown (both normal and emergency) of plant under direction of Shift Supervisor.
  • Conduct safety audits as frequently as determined by Plant Supervisor, to ensure all safety equipment is on site and functional. Check stock of lubricating oil and chemicals, etc. on each shift and inform Shift Supervisor
  • Report for duty punctually, take over and hand over shift in a comprehensive manner in area designated for duty.
  • Assist in performing surveys and monitoring operating parameters and make necessary changes.

  • Assist in the training of new Operating Technicians

 

Additionally, for Technician, Operations IV

What you will do:

 

  • Ensure the safe startup, shutdown, and efficient operation of the assigned process unit.  
  • Operate production units in a safe and responsible manner within environmental limits. 
  • Ensure the optimization of unit efficiencies and maximum production rates on a continuous basis. 
  • Respond promptly to plant emergencies including firefighting to prevent injury to personnel or damage to equipment and emissions. 
  • Act as Shift Supervisor when delegated in the absence of the existing Supervisor. 
  • Coordinate the housekeeping exercise through direct and indirect supervision of assigned individuals. 
  • Participate in Emergency Response Training as required to ensure prompt response to plant emergencies including firefighting to prevent injury to personnel or damage to equipment and emissions.  

 

What you will bring:

 Technician, Operations II 

 

  • Five (5) O’Level passes, including Mathematics, English and Chemistry.
  • National Engineering Technicians Diploma - Chemical Engineering; NETD - Petroleum Engineering; or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years operation experience inclusive of DCS.
  • Understanding of plant chemistry e.g.: catalytic reactions, boiler chemistry, water treatment and gas analysis.

 

Technician, Operations III 

 

  • Five (5) O’Level passes, including Mathematics, English and Chemistry.
  • National Engineering Technicians Diploma - Chemical Engineering; NETD - Petroleum Engineering; or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years operation experience inclusive of DCS.
  • Knowledge of plant chemistry e.g.: catalytic reactions, boiler chemistry, water treatment and gas analysis.

 

Technician, Operations IV

  • Five (5) O’Levels CXC including Mathematics, English & Chemistry 
  • National Engineering Technicians Diploma - Chemical Engineering; NETD - Petroleum Engineering; or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 8 years operations experience inclusive of DCS and successful completion of relevant specific training programmes. 
  • Heavy industry experience specializing in either ammonia/oil refining operation or water treatment, steam generation.
