Bookstore Manager

Our company is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, highly organized and efficient Bookstore Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our bookstore. The ideal candidate will have a passion for books, crafts, technology, toys, games, stationery, trending products, excellent customer service skills, and experience managing a team. In this role, you will be responsible for hiring and training staff, managing inventory, creating marketing strategies, and maintaining a welcoming and organized store environment. Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of the retail store, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Analyze sales data and identify trends
  • Lead and motivate retail associates to achieve sales targets and
  • Collaborate with the Directors to establish operational policies and procedures
  • Report to the Directors on all actions taken to attain company goals and objectives
  • Oversee a team of employees and regularly schedule work hours and general schedules
  • Maintain a clean and organized store environment
  • Leading, monitoring and motivating retail associates to achieve sales targets and deliver outstanding customer service.
  • Monitoring inventory levels, conducting regular stock assessments and coordinating with suppliers to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Implementing merchandising strategies to enhance product visibility and appeal
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase revenue, profitability and customer base
  • Initiates and coordinates development of action plans to penetrate new markets.
  • Provides timely, accurate, competitive pricing on all completed prospect applications submitted for pricing and approval, while striving to maintain maximum profit margin.
  • Maintains accurate records of all pricings, sales, and activity reports submitted by Sales Representatives.
  • Creates and conducts proposal presentations.
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes and ensures that they are communicated and implemented within the team.
  • Sets examples for Sales Team in areas of personal character, commitment, organizational and selling skills and work habits.
  • Efficient management of Sales Management Process methodology, Customer Relationship Management and forecasting.
  • Provide accurate and timely forecasting
  • Aggressive and active in competitive accounts, knowledgeable regarding competition and industry trends
  • Ability to ensure the store is stocked for upcoming seasons in advance
  • Able to identify, articulate, and implement products, solutions, and services to customer requirements
  • Develop and implement business plan to identify, sell, and support incremental value-added services and/or products 
  • Responsible for proposing and closing engagements that will achieve total revenue growth, profit, and customer satisfaction plans
  • Maintain a self-development program in order to constantly strive toward continuing professional growth and work to continuously improve sales skills, managerial skills, business skills and product knowledge
  • Meet the highest personal and professional standards.
  • Mentoring, training and coaching of team members
  • Collaborate with publishers and other vendors to source new products
  • Manage bookstore events such as book clubs among other activities
  • Maintain financial records and prepare reports for upper management
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and adjust strategies as needed
  • Maintain profitability by meeting sales targets and managing costs effectively

Requirements:

  • Previous management experience in a retail setting
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities
  • Knowledge of book, craft, art, game, technology and toy industry trends
  • Comfortable with financial analysis and budget management
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and software
  • Excellent planning, organising and time management skills

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related field preferred
  • Proper working vehicle
  • Minimum of Three (3) years experience in a sales management capacity

Working Conditions:

Physical Demands:

The position may require lifting and carrying heavy items, as well as standing for extended periods of time. The employee must be able to operate a computer and read for prolonged periods.

Work Environment:

The bookstore manager will work in a retail environment and must be comfortable interacting with customers, employees, and vendors on a regular basis.
