Social Policy Research Analyst

The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) is seeking to identify a suitably qualified candidate to fill the position of Social Policy Research Analyst in its Social Policy, Planning and Research Division.

 

Pay Scale: Level 9 - salary starting at $6,491,634 p.a.

 

JOB SUMMARY

The incumbent will have the responsibility to conduct socio-economic research and analysis, including the analysis of household consumption, poverty, inequality, vulnerability and social protection; prepare Cabinet submissions; manage research projects; provide technical and policy advice on various statistical and socio-economic issues; and provide inputs for project and policy development, monitoring and evaluation.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate, implement and manage research projects related to the social sector.
  • Conduct research and analysis on various socio-economic issues including household consumption, poverty, inequality and deprivation.
  • Prepare policy research papers and chapters in areas relating to household living conditions, poverty, inequality and deprivation in the context of sustainable development.
  • Review and provide feedback on survey instruments, research papers and chapters ensuring relevance to policy priorities.
  • Provide socio-economic research and information services, including contribution to the production of documents, publications and policy papers.
  • Provide technical advice and inputs in the preparation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of social and economic policies, plans and programmes.
  • Provide technical advice and participate on sectoral and national committees and working groups

 

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Master’s Degree in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Development Studies or a related area of study with at least five years’ related experience.
  • Strong analytical skills; strong quantitative research skills; strong problem-solving skills; experienced with qualitative research methods.
  • Specific knowledge of economics, statistics, measures of poverty, socio-economic policy issues, econometric modelling.
  • Proficient in use of statistical software (e.g. STATA, SPSS, SAS, R, EViews, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite

 

SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

  • Proficient in planning, maintaining quality standards, organising and time management
  • Excellent technical writing, public speaking and presentation skills
  • Ability to work with persons and in teams at various organisational levels
  • Aptitude to prioritise multiple tasks to meet deadlines
  • Capacity to work on own initiative
