The incumbent s responsible for providing comprehensive technical support to Underwriters, as well as underwriting, and managing complex property and casualty insurance risks for all lines of P&C business.
KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure that Underwriting Guidelines are continuously updated to reflect existing market/industry conditions and practices.
Ensure Guideline contents are structured and worded in a user friendly and easily interpretable manner;
Utilize underwriting tools and data analytics to assess risk and make informed underwriting decisions.
Identify and recommend reinsurance facilities or treaty changes to the VP.
Engage with our reinsurance broker on complex placements and specil acceptances.
Review and revise policy documents, forms, and technical wordings as needed.
Ensure appropriate version controls are applied and maintained on all Company's Insurance Policy Wordings, Forms, Guidelines and other technical documents, using the designated technology applications;'
Evaluate and underwrite complex P&C risks, ensuring compliance with company guidelines.
Work closely with Corporate Services and Sales & Business Development to develop new products aligned with market needs.
Work closely with the VP in the preparation and submission of Annual Operational Plans and Budgets, Monthly Reports and provide input for the Quarterly CE Report.
Assist in managing company relationships with Reinsurers and Reinsurance Brokers by attending and contributing to meetings as required.
Collaborate with Sales and Business Development staff to stay informed about market trends and underwriting strategies.
Assess internal training needs based on trends and audit reports.
Develop and evaluate learning programs for Underwriters, Salesmen, and Agents.
KEY TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
Advanced knowledge and understanding of the core principles of insurance and how this is applied on a day to day basis.
Knowledge and understanding of the range of insurance products and services available in the market.
Knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements and how to meet these on a day to day basis.
Knowledge of how claims should be handled and managed.
Knowledge and understanding of the information gathering process, the factors that affect the acceptance and underwriting of risks.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of Beacon’s underwriting processes and procedures which is needed for new risks, alterations, renewals and/or cancellations.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum five (5) CXC/CSEC passes including Math and English (minimum grade 2)
Bachelor degree in Business Management or related field
Initiation of CII Diploma/Advanced Dip/CPCU/ACII/AINS
Minimum 5 years technical insurance experience
