Senior Purchasing Manager

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Purchasing Manager to join our dynamic team.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Senior Purchasing Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the purchasing operations of the company. This role involves developing purchasing strategies, negotiating contracts, and managing vendor relationships to ensure the procurement of high-quality goods at the best possible prices. He/ She will also be responsible for managing a team of purchasing agents and ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations. The manager will also be expected to keep current on emerging trends and goods in the industry and ensure that the company remains on the cutting edge of availability of new items while phasing out old redundant items.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strategic Planning:
    • Develop and implement purchasing strategies that align with the company's goals and objectives.
    • Analyze market trends and conditions to identify potential opportunities and risks in the supply chain.
  • Vendor Management:
    • Monitor supplier performance to ensure that the cost of goods remains within the goals established. Negotiate terms and conditions of contracts, including pricing, delivery, and payment terms. Negotiate deals and specials as required with suppliers. Foster and maintain positive relationships with key suppliers to ensure high-quality products and services.
    • Address and resolve any issues or disputes with suppliers promptly.
  • Cost Management:
    • Develop and manage the purchasing budget, ensuring cost-effective procurement of materials and services.
    • Implement cost-saving initiatives and value-added services from suppliers.
  • Team Management:
    • Supervise and mentor a team of purchasing agents, providing guidance and support to achieve departmental goals.
    • Conduct performance reviews and identify training and development opportunities for team members.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with other departments to ensure timely and efficient procurement of materials.
    • Implement and maintain inventory control systems to minimize excess and obsolete stock.
  • Reporting and Analysis:
    • Prepare and present reports on purchasing activities, costs, and supplier performance to senior management.
    • Use data and analytics to drive decision-making and improve purchasing processes.

 Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a purchasing or procurement role, with at least 2 years in a managerial position in the retail industry
  • Knowledge of ERP systems
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications.
