Job Summary

The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for the provision of technical assistance to the Head Technical Services on plant process safety, operability, and plant performance to achieve desired levels of safety, production, reliability, and energy efficiency.  This position must lead the implementation of plant optimization and energy management initiatives safely, cost-effectively, and reliably in a manner that consistently adds value to the company’s overall business. The position must have an intimate knowledge of process safety management and exhibit a high degree of analytical ability with the capacity to produce detailed engineering design work.

 

The position is also required to provide related support to the group of companies, its subsidiaries and new business ventures as required. All activities are expected to be conducted safely, cost-effectively, and reliably and must be delivered in a manner that consistently adds value to PPGPL's overall business process. The position will also be required to provide off site and measurement oversight to the Group of Companies and its subsidiaries and new business ventures as required.

 

 

Dimensions

The position of Senior Process Engineer operates as the resource for the implementation of the Energy Management, Equipment Monitoring, Plant Monitoring, Plant Optimization and Process Safety Management programs. Thus, has an integral role in ensuring safety and supports Processing and Maintenance in troubleshooting repeated equipment failures and providing technical solutions. This level must take initiative in reprioritizing work plans daily based on the customer needs and proactively identify plant threats and recommend solutions. Although this is not a supervisory position it is expected that the Senior Engineer will mentor junior engineers within the Technical Services team.

 

Nature & Scope

The position operates under general guidance at the level of the Head Technical Services but also brings its own interpretation and application of engineering standards and procedures to the performance outcomes established for the various work plans and projects. Assistance on matters of policy and technical direction is available at the level of the Head Technical Services. The position interfaces internally with Operations, Business Development, Finance & IT, Supply Chain Management, Engineering and HSSS Departments and externally with Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contractors, Equipment Vendors, Consultants, Engineering and Regulatory Bodies such as the ASME, API, IChemE, CCPS, AIChE, MEEA and OSH.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Implements the Equipment Monitoring program including: the monitoring and reporting of equipment performance along with recommend solutions for corrective action (where necessary) to Head of Technical Services.

 

  1. Assists in the implementation of the Energy Management Program including conducting energy audits and recommend methods of optimising energy, monitoring and reporting on energy utilization, and preparing energy reports and presentations.

 

  1. Provides Process Safety Management Support to Operations including participating in various assessments and reviews to ensure compliance with design and/or accepted engineering specifications and practices, leading Incident Investigations, etc.

 

  1. Generates Plant Performance and Optimization reports.

 

  1. Implements the Plant Monitoring and Plant Optimization Program including providing Process Engineering support to Maintenance and Processing in trouble-shooting issues and reviewing the daily plant monitoring reports to identify non-conformances.

 

  1. Leads Capex Projects including preparing well-defined scopes of work, RFPs / ITBs, contract, et al, and providing process engineering expertise and the quality control for all aspects of the basic engineering at the front-end design of projects (including verification of design basis) through to the detail engineering phase.

 

  1. Provides support for abnormal plant operations including providing QAQC for - Loading and Unloading dehydrators, inspection and pressure testing of process equipment and chemical cleaning of process equipment. Also, provides supports for Commissioning and Start-up Planning and Preparation.

 

  1. Leading and/or participating in committees and cross-functional teams in accordance with roles and duties identified as per workplans and/or team charters.  

 

  1. Provides support to PPGPL’s subsidiary business units on an as-needed basis as part of the shared services model between PPGPL and its subsidiary entities.

 

Job Specifications

 

 

Minimum Acceptable Academic Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical and Process Engineering or equivalent from an accredited tertiary institution or a registered Engineer with BOETT.

The following certifications will be an asset:

  • Intermediate Proficiency in Hysys Simulation
  • Process Hazard Analysis
  • Incident Investigation
  • Fired Heater/Burner Management
  • Energy Management
  • Project Management

AND

Minimum Number of Years of Relevant Experience

Ten (10) years related working experience in Process Engineering.

 

Specific Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience with hydrocarbon plant processing operations and utility systems.
    • Knowledge of engineering and capacity management concepts and practices related to process plant operations and gas-based liquids extraction process.
    • Familiarity with HYSIS software for plant process modelling.
    • Familiarity of Microsoft Project software for schedule development, monitoring, and control.
    • Working knowledge and application of applicable industry discipline codes and standards used in hydrocarbon processing facilities.
    • Sound knowledge of Process Safety Management elements
    • Technical and problem-solving abilities
    • Planning, organization, and time management skills
    • Self-motivated with the ability to motivate others
    • Good communication skills
