Senior Operator

The Senior Process Operator is responsible for the coordination of all DCS and field operations (DCS Lead and DCS Support), particularly start-up, shutdown, and linking of all operations on the manufacturing facility.

Position Summary

The Senior Process Operator is responsible for the coordination of all DCS and field operations (DCS Lead and DCS Support), particularly start-up, shutdown, and linking of all operations on the manufacturing facility. The candidate takes the required actions to ensure safe stable process control, quality control and efficient shipping/boat-loading operations.  The incumbent is responsible for responding to all abnormal plant conditions across the site and must be able to assume full responsibility to make the plant safe, in the absence of the Shift Supervisor and/or the Relief Shift Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Functions as a member of Emergency Crew.

• Controls, operates and monitors the plant(s) within approved operating parameters to meet production at a minimum cost, ensuring environmental and safety specifications are met.  Responds to plant emergencies when required.
• Maintains appropriate level of competence on DCS and field areas to allow for flexibility in staffing and Emergency Response.
• Investigates abnormal conditions, troubleshoots and executes corrective action.
• Conducts basic laboratory water and methanol analysis on samples taken in the assigned field areas.
• Performs ship loading operations at the piers.
• Issues work permits as defined by the Work Safety Control System (WSCS) procedure. 
• Constantly monitors plant equipment by recording plant readings and carries out preliminary assessment of abnormal plant conditions and makes proposal for corrective action.
• Preparation and handover of critical equipment for maintenance and coordination of activities with Maintenance.
• Ensures budgeted volume of methanol is produced by skilfully manipulating and developing good working knowledge of plant, control loops and the design intent of plant equipment.
• Loads chemicals for plant usage and operating and monitoring assigned areas of the plant.

Qualifications

• Diploma: PPO/MET/EEET and CSEC Chemistry OR
• Two (2) GCE/CAPE passes including Chemistry OR
• B.Sc. Engineering or equivalent qualification

Experience

• Six to Seven (6-7) years progressive experience in Process Plant Operations
• Must have Three to Five (3-5) years DCS experience on a Process Plant
• Exposure to the operation of all major equipment on a Methanol Plant is desirable.
