SENIOR HEALTH SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT OFFICER

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

Assist with the management of operational risk and risk exposures through the monitoring and enforcement of the Occupational Safety and Health Act No 1 of 2004 as amended (OSH Act), approved Company Policies and Procedures and other statutory requirements.

 The incumbent is also responsible for the delivery of approved training interventions/materials, orientation to employees/contractors/visitors, and the provision of advice to management, staff, and contractors relevant to industry best practices, and contributes to building a strong Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) culture.

 

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Implement the OSH Act and other relevant Health, Safety and Environmental related statutory requirements by compliance with the organization’s legal responsibilities, ethical obligations, corporate social responsibility, and duty of care.
  • Monitor and conduct Operational Risk Assessment of all the company’s assets throughout the country.
  • Comply with the OSH Act, Environment Management Act, the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service (TTFS) regulations and other relevant legislation by the conduct of regular, planned and unplanned audits and facility inspections at assigned TSTT facilities on at least a quarterly basis.
  • Execute and manage evacuation plans by the coordination and supervision of emergency evacuation drills with relevant stakeholders.
  • Conduct orientation of employees/contractors/visitors to ensure compliance with Company HSE policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate contractors and vendors safety management systems in accordance with TSTT’s OSH compliance requirements by provision of the relevant advice for their engagement.
  • Continuously review and advise on safe work systems, procedures, and processes.
  • Drive safety culture behavior by making relevant recommendations for reinforcement of desirable behavior and mechanisms for improvement.
  • Coordinate District Safety Committee Meetings and perform role as a secretary of the group with accompanying follow up actions
  • Build and sustain a strong HSE culture by the conduct of HSE training for staff.
  • Participate in accident reviews, assists in formulating corrective action plans and monitors same for proper implementation.
  • Perform any other such related duties that may be assigned by the Manager from time to time.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in in Occupational Safety and Health Management.

or

  • National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH Diploma) – Level 6.
  • A combination of relevant work experience in Health, Safety and Environment supplemented with subject matter short courses, will be considered.
  • At least three to five (3-5) years working experience in the field of Health, Safety and the Environment in the telecommunications or utility sectors, at least two (2) years of which must be in a similar position.

Knowledge of:

  • Occupational Safety and Health Act
  • Environmental Management Act and its Regulations
  • Working knowledge of safety management systems (e.g., OHSAS 18000)
  • NEBOSH standards
  • The company’s OSH policy and standards

Vendor Management - Evaluate contractors to ensure compliance with the vendor safety management procedure, OSH and Environmental Management Act.
