SENIOR CASHIER

The Caribbean Maritime University (CMU), the only specialized maritime university in the English-speaking Caribbean is inviting applications for the post of SENIOR CASHIER (Level 3).

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Cashier is responsible for collecting payments and entering data in the ERP System, generating invoices for resits, graduation etc and collections of funds due to CMU and prepares reports for lodgement of collections. The incumbent is required to provide customer service to students, staff, parents and other stakeholders.

PRIMARY RESPONSBILITIES

  • Provides customer service to customers (students, parents, guardians) during registration, examination periods on a regular basis, as it relates to accounting queries and financial clearances.  Escalate to a superior if the matter cannot be resolved by the incumbent.
  • Collects and receipts all payments made to the Treasury by cash, credit/debit card, and other authorized methods from students, sponsors, donors, government agencies, local and foreign.
  • Interacts with customers (students, parent/’guardians, scholarship providers) by emails, over the phone, or face to face.
  • Assists with the invoicing of international students.
  • Investigates credit balances on students accounts throughout the year and take corrective action as maybe required.
  • Assists and advises students applying for institutional financial aid or external scholarships.
  • Investigates refund requests and prepare documentations for approval and processing of funds verified as refundable.
  • Performs cashiering duties as required: receipt of payment, preparation of lodgement sheets and bank deposit slips.
  • Enters information on ERP system.
  • Maintains custody of cash, and hand over lodgement proceeds at the end of the day to the supervisor for checking, validation and postings.
  • Maintains confidentiality of university and student records.
  • Invoices students for other fees as required.
  • Assists individuals with understanding transactions, and when necessary; research records on electronic and other available files to provide information regarding financial status.
  • Maintains records of interactions with the customers in an orderly manner and encourages each customer to complete a customer feedback form.
  • Coordinates with internal departments to find solutions and resolve matters.
  • There may be additional duties in accordance with improved or enhanced organization wide goals and objectives.

SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism displayed in the execution of duties and personal conduct.
  • Records are kept secured and are accessible.
  • Accounting documents are provided to appropriate senior officials in a timely manner.
  • Reports are accurate and comprehensive.
  • Accurate record keeping of payments received and daily preparation of lodgement receipts.

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • An Associate’s degree in Management Studies or related area.
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in related area.
  • Experience using ERP system, Microsoft Suite.
  • Knowledge of cash management principles and/or procedures.

Technical
