Overview

We are a leading provider of high-quality finishing solutions in Jamaica, known for our commitment to quality and innovation. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Officer to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in overseeing the company’s financial transactions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and contributing to the financial health of the organization.

Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Assist in the preparation, management, and monitoring of the company budget to ensure alignment with business objectives.

  • Prepare cash flow forecasts, including revenue projections and expense management, to support business planning.

Tax Compliance & Payroll:

  • Ensure accurate and timely compliance with all financial obligations, including statutory deductions, remittances, and payments to Jamaican regulatory bodies (e.g., TAJ, NHT, NIS, P.A.Y.E.).

  • Oversee payroll processing, ensuring timely payments and adherence to statutory requirements.

  • Coordinate the preparation of tax returns and liaise with tax authorities as required.

  • Stay updated on local and international accounting regulations, tax laws, and industry best practices to ensure compliance.

Accounts Payable & Receivable:

  • Manage and reconcile financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank accounts, ensuring timely collections and payments.

  • Monitor cash flow and assist in forecasting future financial needs.

Financial Reporting & Audits:

  • Prepare and review financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

  • Conduct regular audits of financial transactions to identify discrepancies and maintain financial integrity.

  • Support external audits and coordinate with auditors to ensure efficient completion of audits and statutory filings.

Process Improvement:

  • Assist in implementing and improving accounting systems and processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather, analyze, and report financial data for informed decision-making.

Warehouse Accounting, Inventory & Shipping:

  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of warehouse accounting practices.

  • Track and manage inventory costs, including valuation, adjustments, and reconciliation.

  • Collaborate with logistics teams to monitor shipping costs and customs duties from an accounting perspective.

Qualifications & Experience

  • ACCA Level 2, or equivalent Degree in Accounting.

  • At least three (3) years’ experience in a similar capacity.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, Jamaican tax laws, and regulatory requirements.

  • Proficient in accounting software such as Peachtree, PSS, Oasys Ultra, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).

  • Experience with payroll management software and a sound understanding of Jamaican payroll regulations.

  • Financial Reporting & Data Presentation: Proficient in preparing, analyzing, and presenting financial data and reports to management to support decision-making and ensure transparency.

  • Excellent Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze complex situations, identify solutions, and implement effective strategies.

  • Proficient in IT & Computer Systems: Skilled in using various software and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy in daily tasks, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant systems.

  • Effective Task Management: Capable of prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities to effectively meet deadlines.

  • Adaptability & Flexibility: Open to adjusting to new workflows, processes, and changing priorities in dynamic work environments.

  • Self-Motivated & Collaborative: Able to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team to achieve shared goals.
