LASCO MICROFINANCE LIMITED - SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Effective supervision of the Accounts Department 

  • Payment verification

  • Verification and posting of all transactions in Accounting software
  • To follow through and monitor all incomplete and exception tasks with the respective team members to ensure completion
  • Provision of reliable financial and accounting information for decision-making on a timely basis, to facilitate the control of operations and to improve the viability and profitability of the company
  • Protection of the company’s assets by ensuring the development and maintenance of approved systems, procedures, and practices of accounting and financial control
  • Preparation of monthly Financial Statements by specified time in each month
  • To ensure that all transactions are accurately coded to the respective division or branches
  • To ensure that the required statutory reports are paid and filed on or before the respective due dates

 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To provide supervision to the rest of the team as required, to improve the operations of the department
  • To produce and present timely and accurate management reports with all necessary explanations for variances against budget for submission with the monthly financial.
  • To submit Income and Expenses to the Division’ s head as specified
  • To analyse and monitor all costs and other financial data and to propose policies for improving the economic performance of the company
  • To manage the staff efficiently and effectively in the Accounts Department according to the guidelines and policies of LFSL, ensuring their attainment of agreed objectives and standards
  • To implement and monitor accounting systems in conjunction with management and external auditors to ensure integrity of accounting records, consistency of accounting standards and compliance with statutory requirements
  • To provide guidance and motivate all staff; reporting and administering training and development needs
  • To review and post all journal entries to the general ledger as per the required deadline
  • To arrange weekly meetings with individual team members/Financial Manager and monthly department meeting

BUSINESS PROCESS

  • To effectively supervise all the accounting functions of this division to ensure completion and effectiveness in accordance with policies/procedures and as per the individual team member’s checklist and job description.
  • To ensure timely settlement of reimbursement to the stakeholders daily and commission payments by specified time monthly
  • To ensure that all the relevant transactions for the stakeholders are adjusted accurately and timely to prevent and mitigate discrepancies
  • To ensure that all cash disbursement from the Accounts Department are duly authorized before payment
  • To ensure that all excess funds are invested weekly and cash orders are confirmed and paid in a timely manner
  • To ensure that all bank accounts are adequately funded to avoid overdraft and communicate exceptions to the FM immediately.  
  • To ensure that bank accounts are adequately funded prior to approval of payments

 General:

  •  To represent the company professionally or socially as the need arises
  • To stay abreast of developments in Financial Management through journals, seminars, conferences, and professional associations
  • To provide training to new team members and guide all team members through existing systems and procedures
  • To deputize in the absence of Finance Manager and to designate a team member to act on your behalf when not available
  • To perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

 JOB REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS:

 ¨     B.Sc. in Accounting or ACCA level 2

¨      At least five (5) years in the field of Accounting and experience at a supervisory level

¨      Experience in preparing consolidated financial statements would be an asset

¨      Knowledge of International Accounting Standards

¨      Very strong Supervisory skills
