Store Associate - Sales Promoter

KINGSTON, Jamaica 
 

Job Description

This position is essential to the success of our brand. Store associates / Sales Promoters work closely with wholesale and retail customers to determine their needs, answer their questions about Sherwin-Williams products, and recommend the right solutions. Store associates are also expected to promptly resolve any customer concerns and ensure maximum client satisfaction as well as stay up-to-date with product features and maintain the high quality and visual standards of the products and store. Store associates are tasked with achieving excellent customer service, while consistently meeting the store’s sales goals.

 
Job duties involve contact with customers, which may include minors; and access to cash and other payment methods, electronic equipment, personal information, store merchandise and other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company’s customers, staff, employees, vendors, contractors, and the general public. 

Responsibilities

Position: Sales Promoter/Sales Associate

Reports To: Hardware Sales Supervisor

Min. Requirements: 3 CXC/CSEC Passes Including Mathematics and English 

Geographical Location: Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine, May Pen, Clarendon

Required Skills:

  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Aptitude to follow work instructions and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to verbally communicate with people at levels.
  • Good customer relations ability.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Employee is required to retrieve material from shelves and floor stacks and lift and carry up to 50lbs. frequently and up to 100 lbs. on occasion.
  • Employee will spend approximately 20% of the day, 25% standing, 45% walking and 10% stooping, climbing and kneeling.
  • Adhere to company’s safety rules and the wearing of PPE gears (Personal Protective Clothing).
  • Flexibility to be reassigned to different company locations as the need arises.

DUTIES:

  1. To promote the Company’s image, demonstrate and provide information on our products in the Decorative, Automotive and Industrial line and lead customers to use them.
  2. The ability to mix and tint paint. 
  3. Coordinate information for the Colour Studio for the supply of Colour Chips.
  4. To inform the relevant Sales Representative of customer request for items that are not available in the Hardware.
  5. Assist customers by determining needs and presenting appropriate products and services.
  6. Identify interest and understand customer needs and requirements.
  7. Source new sales opportunities via the distribution of brochures, flyers etc.
  8. Provide competitive feedback from the market that could have an impact on Sherwin-Williams.
  9. Set up promotional booths and stock products, where necessary.
  10. Ensure that courses in ONSET and HR Cloud are completed.
  11. Any other duties that may be assigned.

Duties

  1.  To promote the Company’s image, demonstrate and provide information on our products in the Decorative, Automotive and Industrial lines and lead customers how to be used.
  2. Coordinate with other Sales Promotor for the supply of Color Chips.
  3. To inform the relevant Sales Representative of customer request for items that are not available in the hardware.
  4. Assist customers by determining needs and presenting appropriate products and services.
  5. Source new sales opportunities via the distribution of brochures, flyers etc.
  6. Identify interest and understand customer needs and requirements.
  7. Provide competitive feedback from the market that could have an impact on Sherwin-Williams.
  8. Assist with for training for Sales Promoters.
  9. Promotors equipped with Tools used in the Trade.
  10. Develop a weekly schedule for Sales Promotors based and customer’s needs.
  11. Provide support for over 12 Sales Promotors.
  12. Ensure Sales Promotors carry out Onset Training in a timely manner.
  13. Visit various Hardware Island wide to provide sales support and take with Floor Supervisor.
  14. Set up promotional booths and items where necessary.
  15. Ensure timesheets are submitted in a timely basis.
  16. Any other duties that may be assigned.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent sales service
  • Assist customers in person and over the phone by determining needs and presenting appropriate products and services
  • Build productive trust relationships with wholesale and retail customers
  • Process sales transactions accurately and consistent with policies and procedures
  • Follow and achieve sales goals on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis
  • Maintain precise work order files and formulas
  • Pull appropriate products from the sales floor or warehouse
  • Tint and mix products, as needed, to customer specifications
  • Stock shelves and set up displays
  • Clean store equipment
  • Load/unload delivery trucks
  • Assist in making deliveries, as needed
  • Maintain in-stock and presentable condition assigned areas
  • Remain knowledgeable on products offered and discuss available options
  • Comply with inventory control procedures
  • Suggest ways to improve sales

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future
  • Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to retrieve material from shelves and floor stacks and lift and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 70 lbs. on occasion.
  • Must be willing to work all scheduled hours, which may include evenings and weekends, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Have at least a High School diploma or GED (CXC / CSEC Math & English) 
  • If internal to Sherwin-Williams, you must have received at least a “meets expectations” (3) rating on your most recent performance appraisal (Internal Candidates)
  • If internal to Sherwin-Williams, you must have completed all HR Cloud eLearning courses required for your current position (Internal Candidates)
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Have a valid, unrestricted Driver’s License
  • Have at least one (1) year experience working in a delivery, retail, or customer service position
  • Have previous work experience selling paint and paint related products
  • Have previous work experience operating tinting and mixing equipment
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in more than one language
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in Spanish
