The Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, monitoring workplace environments, and developing safety programs to promote a culture of safety across the organization.

Objectives and Purpose of the Job:

The Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, monitoring workplace environments, and developing safety programs to promote a culture of safety across the organization.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain SHE policies and procedures to ensure adherence to local and international health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of facilities, equipment, and processes to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate and deliver SHE training programs for all employees to enhance safety awareness and knowledge.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on SHE performance, including accident and incident reports, and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Lead investigations into accidents and near misses, ensuring that corrective actions are taken and documented appropriately.
  • Serve as a point of contact for SHE-related inquiries and provide guidance on best practices.
  • Monitor and manage the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the organization.
  • Collaborate with management and employees to enhance safety measures and promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Stay updated on relevant legislation and changes in the SHE field, and advise management accordingly.
  • Assist in developing emergency response plans and conduct regular drills to ensure readiness.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

Academic/Technical/Management: Experience and Qualifications:

  • Tertiary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in health and safety management within a manufacturing or related environment.
  • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (NEBOSH or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Must have a drivers license
  • Must own or operate a reliable motor vehicle.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SHE management software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
