The Jamaica Deposit Insurance Corporation (JDIC) was created by the Government of Jamaica to protect depositors and promote stability and confidence in Jamaica’s financial system and has a mission to:
- Protect insured deposits against loss due to the non-viability of Deposit Taking Institutions;
- Provide financial and other assistance in the restructuring/resolution of non-viable Deposit Taking Institutions consistent with the parent legislation for the resolution of financial institutions and other applicable law and standards of best practice;
- Manage the Deposit Insurance Fund consistent with its statutory objects;

- Take such necessary steps to minimize its exposure to loss.

About the Role
The successful candidate will be exposed to the full scope of financial sector regulations and financial industry innovations, as well as to the culture of financial regulators based on international standards of best practice.
Core Responsibilities of this Position:
- Conduct research and analysis to inform policy formulation, legislation and make recommendations to the Committee of Management in regard to:
- JDIC’s Depositor Reimbursement Framework
- JDIC’s statutory role in the restructuring/resolution of non-viable Deposit Taking Institutions
- Emerging domestic and international financial and economic developments, trends and international best practice standards and implications for the operations of the Deposit Insurance Scheme and other financial consumer protection mechanisms
- Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and systems for the JDIC to make prompt depositor reimbursements and carry out its role to aid in the restructuring/ resolution of non-viable financial institutions to protect insured depositors, including such financial assistance activities through the application of the Deposit Insurance Fund to support the decided resolution options.
- Carry out initiatives to test and enhance the JDIC’s financial crisis preparedness and management operational readiness at the agency and inter-agency levels including assist in the development, conduct and evaluation of simulation exercises.
- Carry out initiatives to operationalize the JDIC’s claims management and recoveries functions in a liquidation, where JDIC is subrogated to the rights and interest of the depositors of an insolvent DTI and any amounts recovered from the liquidation process are applied to replenish the Deposit Insurance Fund.
- Ensure that subject matter expert cross-functional support and guidance are provided on behalf of the Section to achieve the strategic objectives and key initiatives of the Corporation.
- Represent the Corporation on financial system safety net inter-agency technical working groups as well as regionally and internationally, in support of its membership in the International Association of Deposit Insurers.
- Provide technical support to ensure the efficient coordination and participation in international relations activities relating to the Corporation’s membership in the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI); and collaborations with IADI members and other related regional and international partners.

The Qualifications, Experience and Specialized Training:
- Master’s degree in Banking or Accounting or Finance, or Economics or Business Administration
- A minimum of five years working experience in a senior technical capacity in the financial sector in the areas of supervision, regulation and/ or in the financial services industry.

- laws and regulations governing Jamaica’s financial system
- financial system operations and accounting practices
